SolDios Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 hey guys, whats your fave genre to mix? im thinking of specialising in stuff people can really rave to. e.g. bloody beetroots, that footage of spitfires. Quote
CapFive Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Don't specialise, or if you must, pick something that is mainstream, like house or electronic, the hardcore stuff will eventually become stale and you will have to really learn another genre Quote
SolDios Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Thanks, good advicewhats your fave style to mix though caps? Quote
eggssell Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 hold on but mainstream changes. years ago it was techno, early 2000's it was that playboy mansion house feel, a few years ago it was electrohouse, now im guessing its dubstep.but yes as per cap5 there are flaws to specialising.as for OP, id love to mix hip hop but suck balls at it.so i mix and i like to mix: disco, house and party breaks/ booty bass/ bmore Quote
crundyy Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 i fucken cant stand how you always seem to go on about mainstream!! fuck bruz, who cares if the music is mainstream or not aslong as bitches are getn up n shaking their ass i couldnt care less about the music. Quote
street Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 my cd wallet is just electro, electro trash, dubstep and drum and bass, so yeah those genres. havent put much trance on cds yet but theres 1 or 2 lyring around I somtimes use. Quote
CapFive Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Mainstream = bitches shaking bootiesAll I'm staying eggs is don't specialise, learn what's mainstream at the time so as time goes on you will be able to attend to all crowds be it oldies middle.aged or the youngens thats what I have done for the 7 years I have wanted to be a DJ and its working for me, remember this rule, you can please some of the people or of the time and all of the people some of the time, bit you can't please all of the people all of the time, so go for all of the people some of the time, because that will happen more often if you stick mainstream Quote
andyman Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Tech House, Deep House & Funky House. And if I'm wastoiddd, fidget. Quote
Gandy Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 my fav genre to mix is prog house, fucking love that shit.i mix proghouse at home for fun, and commercial electro for my mix cds because thats what the masses want from memy heart and soul will always be with prog house Quote

chrismak Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 There's no point mixing mainstream if you don't like it. Quote
Gandy Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 if directed at me, i actually dont mind commercial electro there are definately other genres i dislike a lot more Quote
chrismak Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Was in response to Capfive . Just saying mixing mainstream is awesome if you like it. But it becomes a chore if the only reason is to please the crowd. Quote

dim Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 you lot might but i'll never get tired of saying the following:"it aint nothing like hiphop musicyou like it coz you choose it."but also +rep for that fackedd Quote
CapFive Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I love mainstream, nothing like watching the dancedloor instantly fill up when you pick that Banger track that everyone loves, even if it is party rock anthem... don't get me wrong, I don't like every mainstream song out there, I only play the ones I like, which I guess is what it boils down to is just play what you like man, that's what turn this industry from a job into a ducking awesome experience...Wow I got all philosophocal and shit for a second then,Oh and gandy, that's hectic cuz youleeeehhhhhhh Quote
RichoKidd Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Dubstep, easily my favourite.Throwing Hip Hop Accapellas over Dubstep is also fun as fuck. Get some Biggie+Womp & you have a fucken party whales Quote

With that being said I like those genres aswell but as long as people are getting up and smashing the d floor im happy. which is what commercial tracks do. Quote
LabRat Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I like mashups done live. None of this pre cueing or laptop created crap - old school, 2 or 4 deck mash Quote
