djjon76 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Hi all.Do many of you great people out there have official mobile dj business names?I'm thinking of registering Funky Feet Entertainment, or Funky Feet DJ's (with a similar web address). There is a DJ company in the UK called Funky Entertainment, but they have no issues with me having a similar web address and even suggested having a link to each others page (eventually).I already have an ABN from when I worked at Unley on Clyde.Thoughts?Cheers Quote

imadje Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 ^ I would say a name for a mobile dj is more important than for a club dj. club Dj can use his/her own name and aims to make it a brand. As a mobile dj the name should strive to get across some idea of what the service you provide is. So names like "rock disco", "soul boys parrties", "rave djs" etc all give a hint what type of disco you would expect from djs supplied by those agencies....I work for an agency run by a pal called:"the hi-life entertainment agency"it works.TBH: funky feet reminds me of that movie "happy feet". it implies a light hearted chart disco to me. which should work for a mobile dj, dont think it would get much cred if you trying to play dubstep tho! DJBigKev Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Hi Djjon, If you're going to be operating in Australia then yes you need to register your business name usually with the state you live in and operate from contact the states department of fair trading, if you have a Pty Ltd company then see asic, however registering a business name gives you little rights as to that name. But wat you can do is register your name also as a "trademark" and that stops anyone in Australia using the same name, see IP australia for details on trademarks and patents.hope this helps Quote
JackB Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Brides and other clients are getting wise to DJ businesses that don't have official Websites and businesses licenses. You MUST have both to succeed. Also very important PAY your taxes. Funky Feet is a good name but, unless you have a good reputation already...I feel that a bride might have reservations about the kind of style you might have without actually contacting you to find out. Compare other DJ company names in your area--which would you be more inclined to hire if you wanted a 'Class Act' $70,000 Wedding and reception? Quote
