Jarrah
Hi everyone,I am new to DJing and just know the very basics. I am looking to buy myself some CD players as well as a mixer to get me started...I really want to get into DJing but am not to sure what to start with, I know how to use the very nice Pioneer CDJ2000s pretty well as my friend has them along with his Pioneer DJM2000 mixer. I love the Pioneer CDJ's and Mixers because I have used them before and the features are great!Being new to everything, I don't know if I should spend a lot of money now and not upgrade or buy something cheap and try it out.Not sure what my budget is, but I have money saved but I would rather not spend over $3000...Personally I think I should grab a used pair of CDJ1000mk3's or CDJ900s or even used CDJ2000s... with a Used DJM800 or DJM2000. But thats pricey and I don't know if it would suite a beginner.Let me know what you think I should do I have thought about getting mixing for years but now I can't wait any longer!ThanksJarrah
fackedd
Don't want to sound like a dick but theres about 10000 threads about this on every dj forum on the internet, including this one.anyway good beginner setup is second hand cdj 400's or cdj 800's mk2 if you prefer the bigger platter and djm 400 or xone 22 for a cheap 2 channel mixer.I've only been on this site a few months now and I think i have suggested these beginner setups atleast 3-4 times now lol.edit:actually there's the same question a few threads down on this page.......you really need to read bro. dim
reading round is good. There's a lot of knowledge in these threads.Quick info specific to your q tho:IMO I would concentrate on good cd dex and just a bog standard mixer (eg numark m4) until you know what you want to do. Too many folk get distracted by all the shit their mixer can do and forget to lock down the basic skill of mixing 1st. you can always upgrade your mixer once you know how to use your decks - you'll also have a better idea what style mixer you want. Skank
from what i read i would do one of 2 things for a pioneer set up2x900s and a 700 mixeror cheaper2x900s/1000's and a 700 mixer second hand you can get good deals on gear atm cause of tax time
andyman
I think you're better off getting something without all of the features, so that you dont confuse yourself.
SourceRaver
If I were starting again it would be with Pioneer 850s (big platter and access to rekordbox) with a basic two channel mixer. Spending up big initially is not a good idea as I see so many full set ups on Gumtree from people who just dont have the time/passion to Dj. If your friend has 2000s, there should be no need for both of you to double up,
Jaz
dude if your just starting out i suggest you dont fork out the big $ for 2000's or 900's, we see way to many people spend shit loads of money just to give it up in a couple of weeks loli suggest you listen to what SourceRaver said above me, the 850's are great decks and im actually buying some myself , they are just like the 900's minus a couple of features, those features are, series link between players, slip mode, qauntized loops and thats pretty much it,for me thats shit i dont want or wont use, is that worth the extra $500 per deck? i dont think so.... all in all i say you check them out

andyman
The only bad thing about 800's and 850's, is black is sexier than silver.

pundaddy
If you don't want to spend more than 3000, go for the pioneer 350 package, which includes your cd players, mixer, roadcase, plus chuck in two studio monitors and headphones, it rounds up close to 3000 bucks, perfect for you to start on. dim
^ if you got the money mate!one big dif between 800s and 1000s: no hot cues, just auto loops. this really pisses me off when I get on a set. Dont know how the 900s do but they look like auto loops to me. I love hot cues.
Jarrah
Yeaah I will look into the specs on the 900s, I think I am better off with hot cues, my mate says you can't get CDJ's without hot cues if you are willing to spend a few $1000,Thanks

fackedd
In terms of playing out at venues I dont think i have ever seen any local DJ's use hot cues. Only pro's.It's pretty much useless because unless you have cdj 1000's at home with sd cards to save them pre-gig.With that being said you would hardly use it even with mobile gigs. If i was you the fact that the 1000's have hot cues would not influence my decision.
Jaz
This has been shown before, but you could use Styleflip with some good ideas you could get the look you want and it will actually protect your gear i wonder if it would remove easy though, or would it leave sticky shit all over your deck and make it look like shit...not sure what i would even design it like...tried a google search but nothing good came upthe white 1 you linked look ok though
Jarrah
Okay sweet thanks for that,Yeah my friend is really serious and loves his hot cues but it shouldn't bother me,So do you think I am best grabbing CDJ900s ?They sound gear and if I can afford them It would be good because they will last me a good while Also is there any news of pioneer releasing a new range of CDJ's in the near future? Thanks Jarrah
