SolDios Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Hey guys, I had a gig recently, and I actually did some mixing that sounded quite good in my opinion. But my problem is, all they want to hear is cheese, no edits, remixes, just originals flicking from song to song. Is this normal for any other dj's in the mobile business? Quote
fackedd Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Even when you go out most people dont care how you mix, as long as you play commercial shit they know. You could crossfade every track with no beatmatching and they wouldn't give a shit. This is mainly for hotels, bars ect ect maybe commercial clubs. Bigger nightclubs are a bit of a different story though. Quote
SolDios Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 You could cross fade every track with no beat matching and they wouldn't give a shit..I tried that at my last gig just to see what would happen, like you said, no one gives a shit, especially when there pissed. Quote
Jaz Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 This isn't uncommon for mobile DJ's man, they just want music, don't care about mixing Quote
eggssell Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Yeah man your job at these type of gigs is to control the dancefloor and vibe. Which is no small feat and is an essential part of djing. If your target audience hates whats your doing then no amount of beatmatching or key mixing is gonna make you a good dj. And ive said to you before, when i think about all the best corporate gigs, xmas parties or weddings ive been to. 90% of the time its because the dj nailed it. Right amount of vibe for the right amount of time. You know get the oldies up first. Then something to get the younger gen out, and some of the more drunken/ adventurous oldies will stay out. Then before you know it packed dance floor and everyone having a ball. Quote
SolDios Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 hey guys, so ive made a post in lighting to ask what kind of lights I would need to light a large hallhttp://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... pic&t=6163 Quote
andythemusician Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 What others have said - mobile DJ is there to create the atmosphere and play the songs people love to get them up dancing and having fun. They don't care if you are beatmixing like a baws or shuttling between 2 iPods - as long as they hear what they want to hear, there are no silences between songs, and the quality doesn't sound like monkeys balls.I'm talking about the 99% of people, not the 1% of people that know about production and DJing and judge the DJ by the equipment they have - which I am guilty of at times - I'm such a gear nerd! Skank Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 agree with all the comments mobile djing is basicly tthe clients choosing you over a jukebox because they cant break you so to speak or mabey just to seem hipI think that in night clubs you have to impress the bar staff/ security more then the crowd they are the ones giving direct feed back to the people in charge Quote

andyman Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Thats what you get when you're a mobile DJ Sol. Quote
SolDios Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 Ehh, either way I had a great time, and id be satisfied even if I don't do anything else from what im doing now. Quote
CapFive Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 i think if you can get good remix's to songs than this is your key to "standing out" from the other mobile DJ'swhenever i play a party or birthday, everyone always wants to know where i got that remix from and some think i mixed it on the fly (what they don't know wont hurt them ) so this is my advice to you, always have about 6 remix's on your songs ready, and ready the crowd for what type they want (eg house, disco, electro, dubstep) and this way you will be able to put a chart topper that will also keep the mood running the way the dancefloor needs to flow.for example, if you see a circle forming and people start shuffling, bust out some dubstep remixes even you just beat match the crowd will think your doing some mixing Quote

street Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I think the super glitchy fidget stuff which is what the genre is about isnt that popular as most is way too dirty and mainstream crowd cant get into it. stuff like this is what im talking about Quote
fackedd Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 thats a fkn sick track streetcleaner, I'd play that when I'm out fo sho. Commercial enough anyway to use it where I'm at. Quote
street Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 yeah most people would probably think its sounds faimilar coz the Daft Punk sample. not as fidgety, but stuff like this would probably be too dirty to play: Quote
