Jaz
is he not sure if he wants TT's, CDJ's or Midi's?
Gandy
he wont want tt's, so i want to give him all the pros and cons of cdjs/mixer vs controller
Jaz
the only Con's i can think of for CDJ is that you dont have a massive library list at your finger tips (unless you hook it up to a computer of coarse) and that they arent very compact to transport compared to midi's...then again TT's are even worse being bigger and more fragile loland as for pro's and cons of controllers...will keep it to myself, dont wanna start a war between the different styles
eggssell
oh my god. what have you done with gandy? guys i think someones hijacked gandys account jks. + rep for bringing someone into the life and willing to help.dont know too much about either. but djaz, karma, and awesome have used both so can give you the ins and outs.i guess just from common sense controllers are cheaper (if you already have a useable laptop) and lighter. awesome88
like i have said before, i think it was good for me learning on cdjs and moving to a controller, however, that does mean you need to spend the cash on two setups instead of one if you want to change down the track.reasons i changed to controller:i mainly do house parties and muck around by myself. I couldn't find any reason to stay with cdj's over a controller, especially since i wanted traktor/serato.it takes less than 5 mins to set up and pack away my gear. i don't even worry about a case for the mc6000 because it's solid as a rock. Chuck the laptop and cables in a bag and you're off.Plus the controller gave me so many more features in terms of easy to access cue's, loops, sample decks etc. and being able to see them and the library a lot more easily.it was also A LOT cheaper.tl;dr version: controller = cheaper, easier to use, more features, easy to access library, easy to move around.cons: cdjs are good to learn on (even though you could just get rid of the waveforms and not use sync.) the main con of a controller is the stigma and idea people have of them being "toys"

No point pushing something that might not suit his needs just because im bias to cdjs, then find out hes not enjoying it which at the end of the day, is why we all do it, cause we love it.also +rep awesome for the controller feedbackedit: i know i act like a total twat whenever the cdj vs controller topic comes up, but you guys know what your talking about, it would be totally unfair to brainwash/trash talk controllers to someone who is completly fresh/new to the scene, and i feel like i would be doing a dis-service to the world of djing by doing that
awesome88
no worries Gandy.if he decides to go down the controller, remember i did thje review of the denon with some comparisons to the S4 (probably the two main controllers atm). It goes into some of the pros and cons of controllers as well if you/he want to have another read.http://www.ausdjforums.com/modules.php? ... pic&t=4927edit: also wanted to add to my previous post that the other con of a controller is they aren't industry standard... which ties in with the stigma if he is intending to move to club scene.... but if he is, like you said, just going to play in his bedroom and a few house parties, controller is probably the way to go. Lurk6r
I don't mean to be disrespectful and I pick on everybody in your situation equally. Sol, Please turn the pitch of your voice down. You don't have to be barry fucking white, somewhere between Obama and Darth Vader is a good start. I hope you see this as a suggestion not an insult. LabRat
Like I said to my mate, if you're striving for club status then grab cdj's and start burning cd's or alternatively, get traktor or serato. If he just wants to start out with house parties or weddings then I'd go full digital because it's alot easier to cart around. Even if he wants to tHen give clubs a shot, he still had his software and will just need to upgrade to cd players
