lol this wont help you man, decide what you want then chase it...other wise you will get vinyl turntables, cd turntables, midi controllers, software packages, tape mixers and any old thing in here...

look for cdj 200 350 400, denon cdj's, pretty much all midi controllers fall under $850, heaps of american audio and stanton vinyl tables under $850

If your looking at a controller, the traktor s4 is a pretty sweet little unit for the price you get plenty of bang for your buck and its ready to go, all you need is a laptop it will come with the new S4 software and i think they give all new buyers a free copy of the new Scratch Pro 2. The controller is modeled around CDJ 400 so the jog wheels are touch sensitive and feel similar

it would be better for him to get some cd'djs and a mixer first though, that way he cant get used to the sync button.

like a wise man once said, if you cant dj without a computer, you shouldn't be djing.

Hey i agree 400's would be the ideal start for himbut he said he is on a budet , i think i have seen one set of 400's with a mixer for under 1000? Besides the sync button is not the worst habit a "laptop only" dj gets into, its the visual representation of the sequencing of tracks, looking at the screen and knowing where and when to drop in new tune or cut up fader out for break in other tune ect that was the hardest part for me switching to vinyl.

maybe wait till u hav a bit more $$ to spend on it coz otherwise u'll get sumthing u can fuck with for a while and want more sooner and end up spending more in the long run

it's true that relying on sync isn't great. i think you should get cdjs to learn the fundamentals first then when you can beatmatch use sync if you'd like and you can concentrate on other things
