GREMM1S Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I've done a 18th birthday where the client and most of his friends had some form of physical handicap. One of them requested everybody started dancing, it was epic.Haha that's terrible Quote
overit Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 aye: zero inhibitions that's why these gigs are up there amongst my favs BTW Vlad, I am foolish, new id is overit. Back from walkabout buddy. Quote
Addi Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Good on you man! Had our gig last night. So yeah on the way to my gig I drove past the other club where Havana Brown was playing, and it was packed. Left me little hope for what the turnout would be at our gig haha. Got there at 10:30 and the place was basically empty. We still had an hour to kill before we started so we hung out near the DF and gradually it got slightly fuller but no too much. When we hopped up on the decks, all our mates got on the DF and within a few minutes the place was fairly packed. People had obviously seen how busy the other club was and came here instead. So we had good numbers on the df the whole set which was sickSet went pretty smoothly but we had a few fuckups which really pissed us off haha. First of all we had never used the decks or mixer before, they were different then the ones we used last time. Anyway, we were building our set up really well, getting the energy up, dropped our newly updated internet friends/bangarang booty, i brought in Who is ready to jump (revolvr bootleg), nek minut, the macbook the DJ before us was using fell off the fucking thing and hit the cdj and totally killed the music. I was like so quickly hit play on the other deck and had to build the set up again. Started getting the energy up again and my mate accidentally knocked a button on the cdj playing and it stopped the music again! So apart from that it went really well, our mixing was pretty decent and we had the place full for a Friday night and with Havana Brown playing down the road. cheers Quote
Mitch Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Garts. Always feels like an eternity when music gets killed, had it happen to me before, nice quick thinking on your feet Quote
GREMM1S Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Shit happens man, always good to learn just how much can go wrong in a club, sounds like it went well though garts Quote

Lurk6r Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 So apart from that it went really well, our mixing was pretty decent and we had the place full for a Friday night and with Havana Brown playing down the road. cheersSounds like you had a good night overall. If I may make a suggestion. Get a couple of tracks that build up from silence. Such as this one @0:36Keep a folder with these emergency tracks. If the music stops, you may be able to recover a bit more smoothly. Quote
overit Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 ^good tip that. Also as you build up your energy, and as the bass pumps more and more - be aware of stuff shaking, bouncing and wobbling in the booth... Bass vibrations = stuff moves. It happens all the time as shown by the laptop you mentioned. But if that was a badly place beer... you wouldnt have been able to recover quite so quick.sounds like you pulled it off tho, Quote

Addi Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Yeah the shit thing about living in a regional town is people froth over mainstream whales like her haha. Cheers for the support and advice lads I forgot to mention, near the end of our set I flicked the switch to turn the strobes on for a drop, which I was doing all night, but this time the fucking switch got stuck and the strobes wouldnt turn off! It was on for like a solid 2-3 minutes before I could fix the switch, peeps on the df were tripping the fuck out So many things went wrong but it was a good learning curve haha. Quote
Mitch Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Shit like that happens man. Especially rural / small clubs where your controlling the DMX yourself. You learn to deal with the Fuckups quickly Quote
GREMM1S Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Makes you a better dj when you start in the smaller, local clubs man. I get the same shit in back rooms. Old and dodgy gear, shit monitors etc all part of the learning curve bro. Quote
mattus123 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 It was on for like a solid 2-3 minutes before I could fix the switch, peeps on the df were tripping the fuck out You make it sound like its a bad thingSTROBE ALL THE THINGS!!!but as the others said, its all part of the learning curve. and if that was the worst part of your gig, sounds like it went pretty well Quote
AlexJ Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Had an absolutely insane nightparty in an old boatshed. lighting rig up. filled with smoke. lazer'd all the things. crowd was epic solid 100+ at all time. when i dropped big booty bitches would have been at least 200+. Requests were pretty much all my type of music. dem electro beats running hard and fast all night. Great crowd except for the one wanker who let off a fire extinguisher, will be still cleaning that shit off my gear for a couple of days (should be no major damage, just the airbournes coated alot of stuff).Had 3-4 ladies with my all night on the stage (which was also custom built for the night 1m off the df). Dont think ive ever been happier to say yes to 'can i help dj?'. turned volume down, got em to press play about the right spot. they go wild, i spend a quick sec fixing things up and then dance for 5mins.Finished about 1 (officially) just whacked on some mixes and danced in the crowd. Oh My God i dont think ive ever seen (neverlone danced ) finer women in my life. All in all best gig ive played by far Quote
