Addi
Thanks gents!I also just remembered, I played an old school hip hop track, and it caused a massive breakdance circle on the d floor haha. I kept mixing some electro and the circle kept going for like 15 minutes, just people getting pushed into the middle and raving it was hilarious haha
AlexJ
So time to log some shit upLast weekend had a 16th, all standard stuff, hit it up played all the top 40 things and left without any problemsLast Night had one of my biggest gigs so far. Was a 40th party. Bit of a retarded night. played alittle bit of everything. I asked when i made the original booking if there was any main music requests. Women (wife of the birthday boy) gives me a list like ACDC crowded house, midnight oil. Basically Aussie rock kind of thing. Calls me later says she has a few more, gives artists. i think ahh yer, i have all of them. then adds pitbull. shes like yer just chuck in a couple throught the night. So get there. Have to lug all my gear up 4 flights of stairs. (originally told me was on the ground floor). took me nearly an hour to setup. couldnt conduct a sound/lights test coz she was like 'just get the music going'. So i did. Played through the rock, 80's/90's hits etc etc. Hell awkward.. Was thinking, wtf is going on. started at 6. was like this until bout 9.30 then i played the gambler by kenny rodges....nek minute. whole party is on the dancefloor belting it out..think to myself. "holy fuck, they're all mad country fans! Im so boned!' as i had shit all knowledge about country music. Lucky i had portable hard drive with like thousands of songs to search through. basically played garth brooks every second song for the next hour. crowd loving it. I was actually relieved when the requests started coming bout 10ish. Couple of country artists i had, but many i just had no idea... Then i start getting the 'dance' requests. Every 2nd person requesting a pitbull song. wanted to neck self. Ide only brought like 4 tracks as she said to grab a couple so was over preparing...by god it was not enough. seriously switching from pitbull to garth brooks to david guetta till 11. was so weird. Then the kiddies started dancing..thank christ. played all the commercial things. never been so relieved to play LMFAO, Rihanna etc etc. Then the bombs away request came. I achaly cheered. weird looks from the crowd haha. Turned speakers up. Dropped the track, bass achualy knocked classes off the nearby tables. Was the highlight of the night. bout 11.30 my computer randomly froze. knew i had about 10 seconds til song stopped playing. so quickly grabbed the mic.spun deck about 15 seconds to the next chorus and killed the volume (when was down til about 30% track actually stopped so i got in with about 1 second to spar) yelled everybody now and thrust mic out to the crowd. one girl picked up on it immediately and grabbed mic and started to belt out the chorus-acapella style into the mic. everybody proceeded to join in and they ended up finished the song. plenty of time to reboot computer and cue up next track. everybody said it was the highlight of the night. I consider it my best save to date.show finished up about midnight when i was told to call last drinks. RSL staff women said last song or im cutting the power...was like................................................................... stupid bitch. Anyway so played show goes on and turned speakers up Really loud (bass down lower this time haha). When song was near end i grabbed the mic, lowered track volume. set speakers to echo and yelled 'hope you had fun, Alex J out!' and killed track and the echo just rang out. everyone clapped.then spent next hour packing up. got payed my $360 and left. or tried to leave. only to find ide be parked in by some yahoo who had apparently just caught the courtesy bus home coz the staff had caught him (she chased him out of the building to try return his wallet) driving after stumbling from the bar. No one had moved his car. Went inside to try and get it sorted by apparently no one had his keys. Met a couple of friends. waited around for a half hour and then told the staff i wanted to leave. they didnt seem interested in helping me (as parking wasnt on their premises) so i called police and had the thing towed as it was illegally parked. So hungry as i didnt get dinner during the night. Nothing is open at 2am. so drove 20 minutes to next town to go to 24h hungry jacks. then went homeeventful night anyway.hopefully pictures to follow. Addi
Got our second gig tonight at a local club. As you might recall we played there 2 weeks ago as a last minute call up and it was heaps loose haha, so we have the main timeslot of 11:30-1:30 tonight. Only issue is Havana Brown is playing at a rival club down the road, now in a small place like Wagga there goes half the population haha. So I have no idea what sort of crowd to expect tonight! overit
Played a Special Needs Disco last night.I do it 3 times a year as part of my teaching work (http://www.djworkshops.com). It involves two days work helping some of the clients choose tunes and remembering how to press play. Then some of the clients actually go for it and mix so each time I see them they get a little help advancing their skills. Then on the event night they DJ and I just stand around for tech help.800 people, all with extreme needs i.e. wheelchair bound, downs syndrome, or other serious disability. Plus care workers.Sound Strange? These people dont have many opportunities to get out to normal clubs so arrive at our event with zero inhibitions at 6pm 100% ready to absolutely rip the floor up \:D/

Lurk6r
I've done a 18th birthday where the client and most of his friends had some form of physical handicap. One of them requested everybody started dancing, it was epic.
