Lurk6r Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Did a friends 18th the other day. About 40 people. Most just wanted to chill. Also, some were underage and were not allowed to drink without written permission from their parents. It was was pretty good night, not epic, but everybody had a good time. EXCEPT that one HUGE whale who kept requesting random songs that had nothing to do with what I was currently playing or the birthday girl's tastes. He also kept putting drinks on my sub then blaming me for stealing his drinks when I was taking them to the I am a fagget, after witch he asked to plug his ipod in. If this wasn't a friends party I would've been tempted to have say "he goes or parties over", but I digress. New lighting setup, 2 astro leds, 2 mini lasers, 1 dmx rgy laser, 2 mini moving heads. 12inch powered tops, 15inch powered sub.Set lasers to kill. Quote
andyman Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Went back to the local open decks night again last night and had another spin.Made sure my tunes were a bit more organised and managed to play a pretty tight deep house set.The venue was pretty empty, but a guess that's what you get at 7:30PM on a Monday. The guys behind the bar commented on how much more confident I was this time around, and said to come back in a few weeks time when their marketing guy is back to talk about a Friday night residency trial. legunner Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Did like an under 18s nightclub thing the other week. Was pretty good actually just used the clubs 1000s got to play my own style which was sick and the guys loved it so I've landed a few more gigs. Quote
Lurk6r Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Coco Jambo massively bombed. 23 people showed up in total. I'm Personaly 1.7k out of pocket. Big ups to Andyman for Comming down, sorry it didn't really work out. On a unrelated note reloop rmp-1s, kite/land board, suzuki gf250 motorcycle for Sale. Quote
SolDios Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Damm that sucks big time! You guys did so much promo work for that :/ Quote
Lurk6r Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Got the bill. Turns out its 1.5 each so that's slightly better. We actually got a bit of interest from the security guys and the guys in the band next door. We just couldn't advertise it outside or give out free drinks to people in their line cause the venue manager was running the other night. I think the biggest mistake was we focused our promo on people we know and expected everybody to come. A few brought friends and they had a good time, but we just massively overestimated the turnout. On the plus side:Had 5 hours of playtime on cdj2000s so im ready to pepper the anguses at the Dj comp in 2 weeks.I showed the av guy how to run rekordbox of a laptop. We're planing our next gig. Same theme, but everything will be tailored to a small (30) crowd and keep costs fixef Quote

Even if they all showed up for the opening night to show support that soon wears off and they don't come. Quote
legunner Posted August 27, 2012 Author Posted August 27, 2012 Sorry to hear that it sucks because I bet it would have been a great night. Quote
Gandy Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Sorry to hear that it sucks because I bet it would have been a great night.this, i bet it was an awesome night with the right crowd, unfortunately as you found out having a small willing crowd doesnt pay the bills, dont get discouraged, as long as you learn from it its a successful event Quote
GREMM1S Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 AaWell that was a quality post lol, sorry to hear man never easy running your own night at least you had the balls to give it a go though. What Club was packed on Sat probably the biggest night weve had yet, was happy with my set went down really well. Addi Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Sup guys! Just got back from my first club gig!So at about 4pm yesterday (Friday) I got a call from a head DJ from a local club who heard our stuff on soundcloud, and he wanted us (Bombaclat) to do a set from 12-1. The club is a fairly commercial club. It was really short notice, I had absolutely no CDs plus I had to work till 9pm so I was under the pump!Anyway, got home and burnt a fuckload of cds, with tracks I hadn't really used before. My mate was pretty sorted, so we rocked up at about 11:30 and talked to the head DJ, who was warming up for us with some RnB and commercial tracks. As this was going to be our very first set at a club, was absolutely shitting myself haha. I'd never mixed with a system as loud as that, never used the decks or mixer, and we had no idea if people were gonna enjoy our style.Kicked off with a Fatman Scoop bootleg, which got the dance floor packed straight away and we just went straight into some electro bangers mixing with some commercial. Played a lot of our own tracks too which people recognised, and a few people even came up asking for us to play certain bootlegs of ours too. Got through our set, kept the dance floor fairly packed the whole time and handed it back over to the head DJ. He actually really enjoyed it, so he asked us to finish the night from 2-3. We hopped back up, and played lots of big house and some dirty electro, crowd reacted really well. So overall it was an awesome night, had so much fun. Good to get our first gig out of the way and we have some more gigs coming up at the same club. Got over the nerves as soon as I got up there and started mixing, and didn't fuck up many transitions neither did my mate. The feedback we got from the crowd was very positive, they seemed stoked to hear some new shit they haven't heard before. Quote
