legunner Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Boys bit of a dilemma. I need a midi controller that i can take to clubs and use with the decks that the club provides and Traktor Pro.Im thinking X1?Trigger Finger? (can use with ableton too which is a bonus)dicers?midi fighter? (djtechtools) Quote
Hobberz Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I would have to go with the X1 as my first choice and than probably the midi fighter as a second choice. Quote
lloydc Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 X1 gets my vote too... i am biased though, I own one.as soon as you plug it in, it works with traktor. No need to map anything Quote
legunner Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 yer the x1 is sick, but the trigger finger i can use it as a drum machine/midi controller in ableton for production too. decisions. Quote
dim Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 is getting both just not an option because of funds?your laptop could handle both...poss akai mpd16 instead of trigger finger for a cheaper option? Quote
LabRat Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 call me old fashioned but what do you need a midi controller for? lol Quote
legunner Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 loops cue points effects for live shows, would be nice to have an external piece of equipment in ableton. Quote
LabRat Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Eye sea. I wouldn't have a clue but if it's traktor then I'd say that x1 thingie Quote
dim Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 have you ever used the traktro midi map function and the "modifiers" you can set in there? When choosing controllers I keep in mind that none of the available maps or functions will suit me so I pick the controller with the most comfortable layout of buttons for what I want to do. Then I use midi map to set which button does what myself. Quote
legunner Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 yer i have the same problem, which is why im leaning towards the m-audio or the midi fighter pro Quote
dim Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 yer, i like the x1 (my mate has one) but there's much more i want it to do.trigger finger is a steady arrangement of buttons and pots. especilly with a good personalised midi map.i reckon the midi fighter would look a bit amatuer to the average punter at functions too. great tool for in booths etc but not as many controls as the trigger finger. Quote
legunner Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 buttons on the midi fighter are more tactile though. i dont really do functions anymore and the midi fighter has a special hole in the bottom which will allow it to be placed on a turntable. cool feature. Quote
eggssell Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 the midi fighter has a special hole in the bottom which will allow it to be placed on a turntable. cool feature. hahaha poor old techies. Quote
dim Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 ^ haha.yeah cool feature, you must be in a booth then? probably ideal for ya karma. Quote
legunner Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 the midi fighter has a special hole in the bottom which will allow it to be placed on a turntable. cool feature. hahaha poor old techies.hha i think this feature was included out of respect for the techs more then anything elseand yeh i am in the booh nearly all the time, also i can use this with a mixer instead of lugging my turntables around. Quote
legunner Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 update, i have just heard that the trigger finger's build quality is rubbish.any thoughts? Quote
dim Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 akai mpd 26 or the little brother akai lpd 8 have lots of buttons, knobs, and lovely akai pads.Akai rep for build is good but TBH I dont think any manufacturer really gives a lot of thought to midi controller build quality these days. I dont think they make much from these products?this page shows lots of controllers for dj control and/or studio control:http://www.htfr.com/pages/quickSearch.p ... =0&catID=8 Quote
legunner Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 im sounding pedantic here but i hate that the pads are on the left hahaha Quote
dim Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 naH BLUD, it's important to be comfy, that's why i couldnt settle for the s4 (pads above the transport buttons)you wouldnt ask a guitarist to turn his axe upside down or change where the tremelo arm is ey?As far as i can tell midi controllers are just a load of buttons and nobs so the lay out is all that's important mate. Quote
legunner Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 yer when you put it that way your rightwell id like to order t=a controller soon cause i have a few gigs coming up. ahh decisions decisions Quote
legunner Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 hey jim ive decided to give the akai a go because of the great rep that it has, and it wont be that hard with it on the left cause the eqs and shit will be on the filter Quote
dim Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 ya know, this may sound wierd, but if you turn it 90 degrees the pads would be where you want them.the faders would work horizontally not vertically and the screen would be a pain to read but ya know: if the cap fits you wear it right? depends which functions are most important to you and how you feel using it really.
