Gandy Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 wait... i'm not talking about going to see tiesto or something, i'm talking about a nobody dj at a local club or someone that does house parties. Obviously a big name dj you expect them to play properly, but i'm saying for someone in their bedroom or at a small local club i really don't care, because they will never get to the famous stage.... so comparing it to metallica or tiesto isn't what i'm talking abouti said it's lazy, and lazy people won't make it, but it's their choice, and if they choose lazy then they will be lazy in other areas too, and never make it.i think we are talking about two different things here...that "nobody dj at a local club" is something some people dream of and is there first step to "making it". Its even WORSE when ppl at "some club" do this because it is shitting all over local undiscovered talent who really have a passion for it." but i'm saying for someone in their bedroom or at a small local club i really don't care, because they will never get to the famous stage.... "right, because people wake up one day and boom there tiesto level, where the hell do you think those guys started LOL, years and years of slogging it out spinning every weekend "at some no name club" until they get a lucky break, dude you need to really think about why you do this... I busted my ass practising and practising day in day out in my bedroom till i finally got a shot performing at a club and it was the best experience ever, such a rush performing and feeling the crowd and enjoying that their enjoying what your throwing at themi guess some ppl just dont get itif people want a easy lazy job/career then djing is not for you Quote
awesome88 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 ooohhh dear, are you even reading it? i said the people in the small clubs being lazy won't make it. Obviously i know everyone has to start somewhere.... if you read it properly without these overly aggressive eyes you obviously have now you would have realised i said that the people who take the lazy way out won't make it.... ffs this is ridiculous..... what started out as a post of "live and let live" has got out of hand =\i don't need to think about why i do it at all.... i know why, and that's for fun. I don't expext to become a superstar dj.... Quote
chrismak Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 i don't need to think about why i do it at all.... i know why, and that's for fun. I don't expext to become a superstar dj....same for me! that's what its all about. Quote

dim Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 EzI dont want to argue about it, but i do want you all to post your opinions as comments on my blog.http://djworkshops.wordpress.com/which- ... t-to-sync/I aim to produce the definitive list of pros and cons regarding syncing or not. I hope this will help everyone be satisfied with their own opinion.I hope we can then point anyone who mentions this topic at the blog and thus avoid more threads resurfacing the issue. Perhaps after this we can leave this topic in the thread with "he who must not be named" as far as adjf is concerned.increase the peace. Quote
BeatLeSS Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I've thought a lot about that whole looping with vinyl argument eggsell. And i've often wondered about learning to scratch with CDJ's.I'd honestly have to say that it's EASIER on Turntables than CDJ's to do that sort of thing, beat juggle, manual looping by spinback, etc. When that Turntable actually has a spinning platter, it's a LOT easier to get the feel for 1 beat, 2 beats, 4 beats, etc. as you literally have a sensual representation of it (touch) to relate.I've been covering up my BPM counters a lot lately and just doing my beatmatching by ear and simple movements of the pitch slider, not even knowing what % it's going up/down by, and I'd have to say i'm a lot better for it. But when it comes to scratching or doing cool platter tricks with the CDJ's i'm getting lost without that 'feel' of a beat to it.Just to throw a spanner in the works Quote
eggssell Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 beatless the comment was looping, cueing and hot cueing (or dropping one shots) is easier with cdjs. not manual looping is easier. i.e as per OP the modern dj has gone lazy because of technology. they can spice up their set at a press of a buttonoh and just to confirm im not talking about turntabilism. im talking about mixing. example, to make a build you could loop as i describe above but slowly bring down the line fader on each loop till eventually silence. after a few beats. push line fader to full and let the next bit play. or if you wanted to echo the outgoing track once you have completed tge transition you would spin the outgoing track a couple beats a few times while each time moving the line fader from 100 to 0 to 80 to 0 to 60 to 0 to 40 to 0. eggssell Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 and to be clear i was saying it as a point that technology has always been changing the game not just lately as i think the OP was getting at. but i personally dont think cdj people are lazy or cheating. they can do things you just cant do with tt's, which is a good thing!
