Track Suggestion

OK, as you guys may know by now I'm a massive nerd/geek. I'm currently teaching myself to program Android and BlackBerry handsets/tablets and will be learning iOS later this year, early next year.

Anyway, had an idea for an app that would help me learn these things while also may help the mobile DJ.

The way I'm thinking it would work is you have a laptop and a wireless access point (make sure you get all the pr0n off the laptop first) that has an app running with you full track list. This app listens for and responds to requests from mobile devices on the wireless network and obviously, the wireless has no internet access. You hand out or display details of the wireless network at the gig and instructions on downloading, installing the mobile device app.

For the mobile devices, the user can install a small application that allows them to browse/search your tracklist and send requests to the laptop.

On the laptop, you will have a real-time view of requests coming in and be able to sort by most requested, requestor etc.

So App On Laptop:

* Responds to queries/search requests from mobile handsets

* Displays ream-time requests or most-requested song/artist etc

App on Mobile Device:

* Requests track listing from laptop

* Sends track requests to laptop

Not saying I'll actually get it up and running but it could be interesting if I do. Any thoughts?

I think you can use ipod touches to send requests to Itunes dj.

You sure can - that kind of gave me the idea. But I doubt many people here would be using iTunes to DJ a party Plus it's mostly about me learning mobile device programming,

ahh, but you could have a seperate laptop, so you look at what songs are coming up, then you mix them!

2 thoughts...

1: all my music software manuals recommend I turn off/disable all wireless and network connections to ensure trouble free running of the software. I go to the device manager and physically disable the wireless device so there's is no way an incoming signal or update can interrupt anything. but i am on PC and i guess you'll have that side of thing sorted...

2: How would you advertise and distribute the app... If i was asked to download, log in, and learn how to use a new app when I had just arrived a at party I simply wouldnt. You may run the risk of only a few super nerdy types being bothered to use it. So you'd make all this effort just to get unrepresentable requests from nerds and you'd still have teeny boppers and drunkles coming to hassle you in person?

Perhaps if you could distribute a simple handheld device for each table at a function? These could already be set up so people just browsed the playlist and requested as and when they wanted to without having to do anything other than make a choice and press a button?

maybe you could have the app on your laptop and somehow distribute it to everyone before the party via bluetooth or some shit or like allowing the iphone to browse a folder on your laptop that has the app
