i dont know about production, but i remember an audiophile once telling me to ensure there is some bleed from them. this will annoy people in the same room as you, but this allows for it to sound as though the sound isnt right up next to your ear, amongst other things.

there is a really good website that audiophiles go to for their headphones ill try to find it and re-up
