Making Remixes

Dudes, when making a remix, what sort of copyright permissions do i need to get off the artists? Do i only need to do this if i plan on selling this mix? (which i do not).

not to sure on all the rules but basically when im doing an un officialy remix i call it a bootleg and put it up for free download, havnt had any problems with anyone or anything. done them on a few names like la roux and cassian

As long as you aren't making money off it then they will let you get away with it (that is if it actually comes to their attention, which it more than likely wont), or the most they'll do is ask you to take it down if they're weird and petty.

yeh id say if its an unofficial remix then call it a bootleg (i should probably start doing that from now on too)

as long as you post them for free im sure there isnt anything to worry about since you're not making any profit

what happens when someone makes a sick remix, eg skrillex = Cinima (pretty popular now) he's kinda making money off that?

i meen you can buy it off itunes cant you?

or do you have to pay royalties or something?

Pretty sure you need a certain lisence for that, but what about whales who rip samples from records and shit.

Like Hoods with the Hard Road, they took the whole chorus from a record. They pay royaltys or lisence?

It's always best to email whoever has the rights and ask

but if you're keepin it on the downlow then don't worry

it's why soundcloud has a 'report copyright violation' function, because cunts remix and use other tracks/samples and shit all the time
