pundaddy Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Just thought i'd share this with you guys.http://yourshot.com.au/Basically, they'll take anyone who's never held a residency, or played a major event before (i.e festival etc), and put you into a competition with 71 other people, and you deuce it out for a set at stereosonic later on in the year, a surprise red bull gig and a guest mix on MOS radio. They provide training for 6 weeks before the competition starts, which is held over 2 days on a weekend, they've got this running for Sydney, Melbourne and Brissy, anyone gunna give it a go? Quote
Jaz Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Its a good idea, chances of winning are slim though, and you can bet your ass that very experienced DJ's will enter as well lolhowever if i lived in Brissy id give it a shot...why not, its free right? Quote
pundaddy Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Absolutely free, no harm in taking your chances though, what have you got to lose? Quote
Jaz Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 exactly, peeps that live in the listed city's should jump on it Quote
eggssell Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 things may have changed as this is the third series. but i went to the first one. basically hundreds of peeps showed up, some waited ten hours!and basically you spent two mins with the judges who ask you about three questions. so they decide the contestants from there so it dont mattet how ecperienced you are its how much you can express in those two minutes and three q's. nothing to do with your djing skills in first round. eggssell Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 hmmm i dont think its that bad. its a legitimate break and the final part will go to who picks up skills quickest, so the better dj will win, but for sure to get in youll have to be marketable. which is a fact of life. how many times have fatties and fuglies been ragged on here (refer whinge thread) so yeah fer sure they wont be picked up Quote
andyman Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 They should make it more about the music instead of who would look the best on stage next to Tommy Trash, but that's just my two cents. Quote
legunner Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 fuck it im a good looking bloke sign me up!!! hahaha Quote

eggssell Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 what if someone has a lot of music knowledge but has never dj'd in their life. should they get a shot, or even get gigs because they know music? Quote

andyman Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 It just sucks that there are a load of talented DJ's and producers out there that will never get the opportunity to play at a festival, or even a nightclub.I bet some blonde coke head wins, who spends more time with a $50 note stuck up his nose than he does making/playing music./rant. LabRat Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I reckon anyone thinking about it should do it for experience and exposure. Unfortunately, half the comps out there turn out rigged but that shouldn't steer you away. Like I said, it's an experience and exposure for ya. You can also put it on your resume (so to speak) Quote
legunner Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 yeah that's what im doing it for, although ican't imagine them liking dubstep too much. Quote

Skank Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 i think it may be a bit of a popularity contest over tallent, im thinking of applying i will have to have a closer look at the conditions tho Quote
djarmed Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 is this shit still fucking going on???Like skank said its popularity over talent. Thats the way it was from day one and thats the way it will be for however long the stupid competition lasts for. Quote
andyman Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I can see Sol Dios winning this. When they interview him he'll sell them his idea about Zero to Hero, kill it for a while, then fall to pieces when Pioneer find out he called them crappy. Quote
legunner Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 hahahahahahhahahahahha.pioneer are sponsors. they will see how i have stood up for them in the thread and reluctantly hand me the winners title Quote
