so the mark up is used to cover the risks of gamblers? doesnt that mean we are paying so they have a safety net in case they release products that are shit lol?

I'm not having a go, and I do get it... a lot of the mark up is used by companies in research too, especially electronics companies.

lets play a game, what you recon the CDJ2000 actually costs pioneer to make?

i recon about $150 per unit, just thinking about the plastic, computer chips, buttons, and screen....

then i recon they would sell them to say StoreDJ for roughly $1000, then StoreDJ sells them for $2000

all just my estimates

maybe... but lets not forget govt taxes: at point of purchase of raw materials, on wages of employees, and on the sale in the retail shop.

then there is all the advertising, namm exhibitions and brown nosing pioneer reps need to do to stay industry standard, also all the money they lose when they get it wrong by making thousands of units which no one wants like the cdj 500 which must still be sitting in warehouses around the world.

it's a fucked up and very wasteful system and i bet even they cant calculate how much they really make from any one unit sale but what are we gonna do? we get inspired by new toys and if they didnt make enough money to risk spending time on research we might all still be on belt drive wind up gramophones!!
