djarmed Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Shit i have come into this thread late, but soldios.........pioneer is expensive for lots of reasons, not just because they are industry standard its because they put a fuckload of money into research and development and they dont release something until it is extremely reliable (as in doesn't fuck up whilst using it) im not saying that they haven't had problems with firmware before. The reason why you find videos on youtube of pioneers fucking up is because more people use them.....hence more videos.Other company's that make "dj" products generally dont spend as much money researching and developing......or they release something way too early denon is a classic example, when they released the dn-s3700....hybrid mode was a piece of shit, and the layout is a complete cluster fuck in comparison to pioneers. Now im not someone that has used pioneers my whole life, infact i have used pretty much every other brand of cdj's that has ever hit the aussie market after i ditched my vinyl and without a doubt pioneer is superior than the rest (some people would disagree but they just haven't come out of the closet yet).So i would save your penny's soldios and buy some pioneer stuff. And dont go to places like jb hi fi and "test" them like someone else said they have prob had the shit raped out of them by kids. And with any dj equipment money does reflect on quality.... that why you done see people like tiesto or armin van buuren or any pro dj for that matter rocking around with the latest Numark decks.. Quote
legunner Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 what he said ^also abit off topic but how do you get that little DJ ARMED Thing in your sig? Quote
dim Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 "And with any dj equipment money does reflect on quality.... that why you done see people like tiesto or armin van buuren or any pro dj for that matter rocking around with the latest Numark decks.."although the sentiment here is basically spot on it's worth noting that money doesnt always reflect on quality, gold plated technics are no better than standard dex, and the newest range of numark controllers are very high build quality but priced reasonably, unlike pioneers attempt at the controller market. I remember the battle lines drawn up when pioneer released the cdj 1000 back when technics 1210 were industry standard. there was a lot of teething for many djs to make the switch, it could all happen again now controllers are upping their game. Armed is right: pioneer are industry standard becasue they are the best... but the only thing certain in life is change so dont take it for granted that they'll always be at the top of their game. dim Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 teehee.bad example for reasonable point... should have said more about the crappy plastic overpriced pionneer ddjt which really looks they are cashing in on the reputation of their cdjs.but didnt want to swing things into a controller/cdj debate....that will be a new thread posted about 30seconds after the latest generation of units gets into the shops. Quote
legunner Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 aren't they in shops already??i don't like the look of the units, if i want a cdj/mixer setup thats exactly what ill get, not a controller. Quote
dim Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 the pioneer units are in shops, but the numark one which looks like better build quality, better platter response and cheaper hasn't landed yet. And lets not forget after this first flurry of controllers with real vinyl emulation we can expect upgrades and mark II versions in the not too distant future.Of course if you want a modular set up you'd choose cdjs over controllers, just like years ago if you wanted to be a real dj you'd choose technics over cdjs. I'm just saying that when new products arrive they can turn things on their head in ways people never expected.eg) i wonder if 15 years ago tiesto and armand ever thought they'd be using cdjs in clubs? Quote
legunner Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 yeah true true i get what you mean. I thinkk eventually CDJ's will go out. But i think vinyls will stay forever Quote
dim Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 word.it's only a matter of time b4 tech reaches a point where people recognise that a cd player is just a platter with a few buttons, no different to a controller really excpet you have to keep finding the song you want on CD discs.but vinyl... warm, fuzzy, delicate, analogue, lovely vinyl....i'd write a poem if a was a bit more of a cunning linguist. legunner Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 if rebecca black can get famous singing you can write a poem Quote
dim Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 hahahaif thats famous i'll stick to cunnilingous! Quote
SolDios Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 One thing I dont get though, for the price of one pioneer cd'dj you can buy a i7 laptop with 6gb ram :S now you cant tell me it costs more to make a cj'dj then a computer, I mean they basicly use all the same components accept for a jog wheel. Jaz Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 once you work in retail you will understand pricing man, its all about suply and demand, there are billions of laptops in the world with similar specs competing and keeping prices low, there are only 2 major major CDJ makers, Pio, and Denon...the rest dont have as much range and tech as these 2 brands...and Pio is already ahead and the club standard so they can charge whatever they want and people will pay it...in reality nothing costs close to make to what you pay for it... I sell furniture at my work...we will buy a bookcase off the manufacturer for $15, then sell it for $120, and the manufacturer is still making a large profit off that as well so it probs only cost them $4 to make... awesome88 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 holy carp.... didn't realise there was such a mark up on furniture. Makes sense now, just never thought about it. Quote

Jaz Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 yeh i understand the mark up but still its massive plus im 1 expensive mother fucker Quote
