Yes there is heaps of stuff to claim. You don’t really need an ANB also if your only earning a few thousand or so... I think you need abn around the 60 - 70 mark. But this is something you will need to check with an advisor.

Claimable things as long as you have receipts:

Tunes

Equipment - if you use it for performance

I’m not 100% on these but

Printing and designs but it depends on your situation

Then the nitty gritty

leads, cables, blank CDs, stationary, internet, sometimes clothes and sometimes rent.

All depends though. I suggest seeing an advisor or a really good tax agent that’s had experience with music industry types in the past.

If you are receiveing money for work as a DJ and you wish to declare it you need an ABN regardless of how much it is. ABN registration is free and only takes about 10 miuntes to complete.

What you may or may not need is to be registered for GST. IF you earn over $75,000 through your ABN then you need to be registered for GST and to be charging an additional 10% on your services.

If anyone has any questions relating to bussiness matters feel free to give me a buzz. This includes those of you with licensing queiries. Considering I've spent the last 12-18 months sussing it all out I would consider myself somewhat of an amature expert in the field.
