pill Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Has anyone heard of such a thing that i could use to automatically correct the volume level for a microphone signal? At weddings, presentation nights, etc, you get some annoying people who talk loudly, softly, etc.I suppose it would be the equivalent of a compressor/limiter but for high level signals. All help appreciated! Jaz Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 wouldnt the multi mike amp you were looking to get have this sorta thing built in?end up getting 1? Quote
pill Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 I would be able to adjust it manually but you know how dry some speeches can be! Quote
andythemusician Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I don't understand, you are basically describing a compressor but saying it wouldn't be a compressor... hahaWhat do you mean by high level signals? Quote
pill Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 well, i just thought it wouldnt be a compressor because it's an input signal (on way to the mixer) rather than an output (between mixer and speakers), haha.I didn't know they could be used between a microphone and say the mic's preamp... can they? SourceRaver Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Most people just don't know how to use a mic and it's an unfortunate fact of life. Adjusting the level on one or more mics is about 90% of what I do as an av tech. Try and google automatic gain control as i think that's what your after. Quote
andythemusician Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 You can def go mic > compressor > mixer. This is essentially what the insert jack on a mixer does, except it makes cabling a bit easier and allows the mic to hit the preamp first. But I have done it like this before when I have had no inserts on channels, and it works fine.
