yeah the 3700 is a good machine, but your right, it's not what i'm after,

I still have 2 cdj 1000s with a pioneer djm909 in a custom built coffin case, or 2* 1210s with shure m447s if the mood takes me. I'll never sell those but i want something all in one and lightweight to take to gigs that aren't 100% important to me (ya know those cash in hand functions where you are playing songs you dont like to muppets you'd never party with, or do you guys have proper jobs too?)

if you want something lightweight to take around, the S4 is heaps light and easy to move around

what about the vestax vci's? esp. a djtt modded one with the arcade buttons.

if you google vestax vci scratch you can see people scratching with it. and google vestax vci fantom (or maybe phantom) and you can see someone playing an old school hip hop set (old school as in playing funky breaks and juggling them. so i dont see how that guy is not a DJ and just an entertainer??? makes no sense. if he is playing other peoples music in a set thats a DJ to me. cuz it looks like he has a lot mo' skill then someone who can just beatmatch and cross fading between track to track).

my only worry with turntables is yes, I know your going to shoot me for this, no sync button. I dont think you can even with an x1 hooked into your control vinal setup. I know its kind of nooby, but sometimes you have gigs where your not on your game, and I just like the security of having it there just in case

Hey, so Im wondering, what would I need for a timecode vinyl setup? I know 2 direct drive turntables are recommended. Buy my main question is if you really need the audio 8/4 thing that comes with traktor scratch pro, ive seen people on youtube doing it hooked up to a Hercules controler and even a Behringer BCD2000. So what would I need?

Im not planing to upgrade any time soon, but I like to plan ahead and have a goal :)

laptop

traktor/serato scratch program + soundcard

2 x turntables

mixer

so is there any specific sound card you have to use, or can you use any old sound card or dj controller with one inbuilt?

good point, but I can buy the software alone for alot cheaper $100 from a friend, so all I need is something to get my turntables to hook up too something. that berringer is looking ok atm :3

If you buy the software and than the sound card separate it will end up costing you more dude.

dude, people may have hooked up some sound cards to work timecode but you need a lot of in/out pathways:

a stereo pair from each deck goes into the soundcard to feed the timecode signal to your computer.

a stereo pair comes from your soundcard back to the mixer with the music from your laptop.

a stereo pair is also useful to come to the mixer str8 from the decks (bypassing the soundcard) in case the laptop crashes.

you also need master out pair from soundcard to speakers, and headphone out.

You may get away with running some in mono. you may risk using it without the failsafe of having the decks str8 t mixer option (if you're at home this doesnt matter as no one will hear it crash).

I dont know how the guys on yout tube did it, post the links maybe and we'll see what's going on there?

p.s. behringer is pretty rubbish plastic toy, i have one, it is covered in dust, cant even sell it on.

sorry to be a pain, hope this helps in the long run

yeah that's a very nice tool, i love the aracade buttons, but need 4 channels for when i do want to expand at bigger gigs.

yeah that would get you from dex to software and back again, no failsafe to put the dex str8 thru tho.

the headphone selectors are on the software. you set your software preferences to the correct routing (which on that thing would be the headphone out i guess) than the software has individual buttons to route one or other deck through that output, it's called cueing.

I cant see where master out is coming from, unless you use laptops own soundcard which is likely to result in serious delay/lag/nightmare for mixing.

IMO if you're going timecode get a dedicated soundcard with the software. If your using vinyl you'll have enough issues with your carts, needles, audio cables affecting calibration without your system adding to them.

yeh i gotta agree its all gonna be much less hassle to get the dedicated soundcard to the program

man you can get hell cheap used Traktor or serato + soundcard packs because the new traktor is here

most around $300 (with the audio 8 soundcard at least)

$300? most places ive seen it it is $600, or can you recommend a mixer with an inbuilt sound card, I didn't mind that berringer, but jdim says its bad. I like the idea that I can have a mixer with pretty much all the features of an x1

Posted

You will still need the external sound card even if your mixer has one built it. And most people use the X1 for the midi control not the effects. The X1 makes browsing your laptop and choosing songs easier than reaching up to your laptop track pad or mouse. As for the mixers effects apposed to the X1, the X1 gives you more control over the effects parameters like how wet or dry they are.

Too me it looks like you are confusing yourself too much, by deciding weather you want a controller, cdj's, turntables, mixer, software etc all in one go.

First of all you need to decide which way you want to go with your DJ'ing.

Controller: Pick the one you want, use the software it comes with and your set to go.

Or pick what cdj/turntable and mixer set up you want and than once you have that decide if you want to use time codes. If you do than just buy either a Traktor or Serato package and it will come with everything you need and than your away.

dunno if traktor is still half price or not.... but if it is, just get it. it'll be worth the 22 hours working for the colonel

:werd:

I'm pretty sure most stores sold out when they went 50% off, but the occasional one still pops up on ebay and gumtree.
