SolDios Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 hey so lets get a convo started so whats your oppion on pre-mixing?I personaly think its alright, but it has its cons:pro:*if your having a huge epic once in a life time gig, it would make sure its perfect. *all your mixes can be perfect each timecons:*easy to get borred*the people paid you to play live :S_____________________haha the only reason i brought this up was because at the bdo this year, I suspected anna lunoe of premixing :3 there where multiple tracks playing, but only one of her players was indicating that it was playing. It still sounded epic, but in her deffence, you would NOT want to stuff up a huge gig like the bdo Quote
Gandy Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 wtf kind of question is that, you're there to perform live and put on a show and enjoy yourself, its what being an entertainer is all aboutyou thinking this is alrite plus your other auto sync comment is retarded, i dont even care if every other member hates on me for thiswhat are you going to do stand there with your hand on your cock for 1-2 hrs? Quote
Hobberz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 What if you pre record a wicked set and turn up to your gig and realise your crowd want to hear something different? Than you pretty much have to start from scratch and do it live anyway. Quote

Gandy Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 and your view is you think its ok, which is wrong. Quote
crundyy Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 whats the point of being a dj if ya just gona make pre mixes and sit there doing nothing, i get angry when i see whales do that, because theres so many dedictaed people trying to perfect theyre mixing..ill throw my beer at a "dj" i see faking it anyday.. Quote
Jaz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Without flaming you i gotta agree with the rest of the lads when they say your there to perform live...its true...if you record your mix and just play that the club might as well put a CD on... BAHAHAHAHAHAHA ^ Quote
legunner Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Relax guys he didn't say he does it he is just wondering what you guys think about it.I think pre-mixing is stupid because i believe a dj is someone who mixes songs live and that's what people want to see you doing. Imagine how embaressing it'd be if someone requested a song and you replied sorry mate i prepared all my tracks earlier so unlucky.. Quote
legunner Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I read somewhere that tiesto was caught playing a pre-mixed cd once. Quote
SolDios Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 haha yeh, plus its hard to fake mixing without stuffing up your pre-mixed mix. haha the only time I pre-mix is for demo tapes and to put online to show people and thats not really pre mixing I mix strange though, before my gigs, I strip lyrics out of the songs, so that way I can have them whenever I want in my mix Quote
lloydc Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 the furthest i would go is to have two songs premixed together if I knew the transition was going to be bloody hard to nail every time, and i knew both songs worked super well together.but for a whole set, no chance in hell!!that should be punishable by death.I don't think tiesto does the premixed thing, a lot of his mixes are pretty average... but his shows are awesome (except stereosonic last year) Quote
Skank Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 premixing for piss breaks and set up are fine no one can argue that, but if you booking gigs and feel so insecure that you need to premix before you play out, maybe its time to go back to the bedroom Quote
Jaz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 ^well saidyes, that comment right above yours is correct Quote
Jaz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 ^well saidyes, that comment right above yours is correct fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck double post n ruined my smart ass-ness Quote
J0rdz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 FUCK THAT. Seriously, it goes against everything I believe a DJ should be. It's the lowest thing a DJ could do, period. Not only are they cheating themselves, but also everyone they're playing to.Fucking beat mixing isnt that fucking hard to do. If you cant do it, you're not a DJ. So get off the fucking stage and go fucking sit at the bar and let someone with REAL TALENT give it a go.Pros:NONCons:EVERYTHING Quote
J0rdz Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 ...furthermore:I personaly think its alrightNo, its fucking not. People that think this way are bringing our art form down. Wake up.So you're saying that you would happily pay good money to see a big name DJ play a pre-mixed CD? Quote
andyman Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I +repped you for that display of awesomness Jordz. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Quote
LabRat Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 its a load of crap! im fairly sure one guy at the club i use to play at does it from time to time. ive seen him run off for a smoke and / or drink and ive noticed that he's put in a cd which had 2/3 tracks mixed together already... well dodgie. guys like that need to be shot in the face Quote

SourceRaver Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 The whole set? - NOA couple of songs that have a difficult but awsome transition? - YES (as long as it sounds awsome!)More than a couple of songs - MAYBE (only if your working several hours straight and you need a break)Premixed mashups, remixes etc - YESSo in answer to your question Sol:If you find yourself in the unlikely position where your set is life changing and you dont feel confident, then you may want to use something like Traktor and beat grid your tracks in advance. You will still need to concentrate hard on music selction and mix placement but at least you can respond to the crowd. Quote
awesome88 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 yer, unless it's for a toilet break (and really for this, you should be playing the Grease mega-mix ) then not cool.otherwise they might as well put in a ministry of sound annual for everyone to dance to...... besides, it would be as boring as all fuck.... just stand there and jesus pose Quote
