Cupe Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 this kind of works best if you spin vinyl but i guess it would work with a playlist if you just randomise it then go in orderso anyway, i got this idea. i finally got my shit setup but my stack of wax is all in mixed up order (dnb, house, electro, hiphop etc)i was gonna call a competition where like, you just pick the first wax off the pile, and then continue through the stack to make a mixif you spin off mp3's or some shit you could, like i said, make a list of random genre tracks and randomise the list then go from the top trackno fucken cheating, whatever is in the pile next is what you spin next and have to blend innah mean? Hobberz Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I'm keen. As I use Traktor and the majority of my tunes are in my iTunes and Traktor library I will just go to either my "Recently Added" or "Most Played" folder in iTunes and whatever songs are in there I will use them in the same order as displayed. I'm sure it will have some variety of genre's in there. Quote
chrismak Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I like the idea. It may provide a greater challenge to those who have a collection containing a wider range of music genres. I personally find mixing between different genres is much more difficult than sticking with the same or similar genre(s).But you would definitely get some interesting mixes. Quote
eggssell Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 not to rain on yer enthusiasm cuper ( i too had this idea where i would run a shuffle on my ipod which nearing7000 songs. write down the next ten tracks in that order and then try mixing them) but to be fair didnt we all agree jordz idea was a good one? yet it didn. go anywhere. of course we could run both at the sametime Quote
andyman Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I can't see mine turning out well.Indie, Punk, Dustep, Techno, Tech-House, Minimal.Sounds nasty already. Quote
eggssell Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 at random yeah could end up nasty. but planned i think you can work that. indie into punk into ska into dub into dubstep into 2step into minimal and then yer back in EDM. not that i could do it ha ha ha. check ztrip, peanut butter wolf and AM who go all over the shop Quote
andyman Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Z Trip made me shit my pants when I saw him do that at Big Day Out many years back. Quote
J0rdz Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 My mix would be hella crazy!I've just recently moved and my whole vinyl collection is in shambles and all mixed up - oldschool 80's rock, to trance, to dnb, to hip-hop, to ambient, to experimental. Would be VERY interesting seeing what I came up with! hahaKind of play a similar game when I have mates over. They sit at my vinyl shelf and just select tracks that they want to hear - can be anything they want and then we have to try and mix them into what we're playing. Ends up very random! Quote
Cupe Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 yer th ats what im talkin aboutim gonna do it live i reckon so yall know im not fakin it Quote
eggssell Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 ha ha if i go frm my vinyl and not use the dvs, we could get things from the beatles, the beach boys, the rocky IV soundtrack, wierd al, 80's hip hop 12 inches (fat boys, 2 live crew, melle melle, fresh prince & jazzy jeff), 80's & 90's pop 12 inches and singles (skid row, gunners, kylie, bros, milli vanilli, madonna, wham), shyte load of new jack swing, and a little bit of early house and maybe some acid (im sure ive got this wicked bomb the bass 12 inch). LabRat Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 cool idea. how would you know if someone has switched up tho? i can honestly say i've got my breaks and dubstep in order followed by drum n bassi just had a thought, we could get a friend or family member who havnt heard any of the stuff choose what we play? (99% sure family members would have no clue about any of the tracks we play). we could take a pic of the vinyl or whatever... just my 2 cents Quote
Cupe Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 you would be able to know that i didn't switch it up because of the retarded track choice and genre mash ups?my rekkurds are all over the fucken placehow about i try to do it over the weekend and we'll see what happenscurrently sitting on the turntables is a madlib instrumentals album so that'll kick it off Quote
