andyman Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Played my first club gig last night.Nerve racking, but so much fun!Played an hour of funky house, which was sick.Only problem was the shithouse monitor behind me which made mixing quite difficult!Overall, awesome experience. There is nothing better than seeing people grooving to your tunes.Cant wait to do it again Quote

LabRat Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 nice job! some booths are worse then others out there but you'll get use to that Quote

J0rdz Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Pro tip: helps if you teach yourself in-headphone mixing. That way if your monitor is playing up, you can revert back no problems. You'll encounter monitor problems a lot, especially when playing shitty venues! Sucks when you rock up and there's no monitor at all and the venue has a mad delay or echo - makes it almost impossible to mix! Quote

You'd be surprised by how many DJs, especially ones on the club circuit, go to absolute shit the minute there is an issue with their monitors. It's a great skill to have and definitely something I think all DJs should know how to do if they intend on playing out. legunner Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 ive been trying in ear mixing lately, kinda hard Quote
fackedd Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 yeah most of the time i mix in my headphones, just habit i guess. Worked out well because i mostly play at bars and hotels so usually they dont have monitors or there not working. Quote
dim Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 yes andyman, well done mate.monitors, headphones, so much to say. but just well done mate. Quote
RichoKidd Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 The first three mixes I did on Virtual DJ (YES I KNOW, ITS SHITHOUSE) were all ear mixes but now I'm starting to do in headphones on vinyl, makes life easier. Quote
