Jaz
Ok this is a very noob question but ive only ever used USB's or CD's on my 400'sDo i have to have Traktor or the the likes to mix from my laptop? i basically just want my entire library at my disposal rather then what ive burnt to CD'scheers

djarmed
just buy a portable HDD. Much cheaper than software
pulsebeat
i prefer serato as it displays colour wave forms, and has a mesh thingo where you can line up the bassbut kinda a cheating way but traktors way is the sync button
eggssell
and djaz youll need traktor scratch with an audio 8 or certified mixer, not just the software
Jaz
Fo real? so id need the actual soundcard box thing? same thing for Serato im guessing....
Hobberz
and djaz youll need traktor scratch with an audio 8 or certified mixer, not just the softwareCouldn't he get Traktor pro and run it in HID mode?
eggssell
ha ha as per other threads i dont know shyte all about cd players and only heard about HID here, and kinda just understand it.so yeah i dont know
Jaz
i just though i could either use a different ASIO soundcard or my players n mixer would just run as the soundcard....
Hobberz
Haha, I dont understand it either. But I had seen that Gandy runs his 350's and Traktor in HID mode without the Audio 8 so was thinking it could be an option for Jaz. But yeah I honestly don't know how HID mode work's, so probably better if Jaz talks to someone who uses it and see if it will suit his needs. pulsebeat
honestlyim a big fan of seratothat way all you carry to a gig is your laptop and serato box and headfoneslove seratoand you could probably pick a SL1 for 500 or so on ebaytraktor could pick up heaps cheaper with that massive sale they had on and shiti would go with one or the other

Hobberz
Think he has a Toshiba, so windows...I'll answer for him because I'm interested in HID mode just for future reference.
Jaz
yeh windows
Gandy
man for how easy this is to setup, there are NO youtube videos for itmmm with windows you have to fuck around with a lot of things, ive only done it with mac, and i shit you not, all you do is plug the two decks into the laptop via usb then run the startup wizard in tsp takes under 5 mins and you save on carrying so much extra crap
Hobberz
Gandy can you use just the Traktor Pro software for HID rather than buying TSP if you have no intention on using the timecode cd's/vinyl or the sound card?
Gandy
i dont think so, it all comes as one package, the audio 8 is still handy to have for older models that dont support HID
Gandy
see the issue with windows is all the driver crap you have to worry about, i found this video its def worth looking at
Hobberz
Yeah ok. So how does HID vary from using timecodes? Obviously all you music is still in your Traktor Library? Does your CDJ's act as a midi controller or something?
Gandy
so glad im using a mac, that looks like such a headache on windows
eggssell
wait i thought hobberz was asking about how to setup HID.if you just saying how to setup tsp, then yeah its the same as with the mac. plug in, follow wizard, enter serial number in service centre.in fact reading some of the NI posts it seems they care about windows first and then mac, as most updates seem to mess macs up more often. Gandy
im pretty sure hobberz was asking about how to setup HID mode, as well as Jaz, which is why i linked that videoi could be wrong though, its happened before
