SourceRaver
Their are two types of hard drive Fab, those that have failed and those that are about to fail. I wouldnt buy a single hard drive, get two (one as back up).
J0rdz
^+1! Defo have one for backup!I use Seagate and Samsung portable HDs and they work really well. I back-up important files and shit on the HD on my PC just as a precaution as I've had portable's completely shit themselves before.

FabDJ
Got a Samsung 1 Tetra last night. My old computer Windows 95 could not recognise the Samsung via USB so downloaded the 6 gig of Drive C to a memory stick and loaded it on to a XP laptop as a file called Old Computer. took hours. Will download the laptop and all its contents including "Old Computer" to Samsung.
DJ_Raptor
I've always prefered Western Digital, but in all honesty, they are both as good as each other.I have been using them both for over 10 years and have seen bad batches from both vendors from time to time. Each vendor also has different types of 1tb hard drive. Eco drives (slow) standard drives as well as enterprise drives (very reliable and fast but expensive)you could always get a WD Mybook Mirror external (i think thats what its called). It has 2 hard drives and will mirror your data automatically giving you superior protection.
legunner
I've had my WD for about a year and so far haven't had any issues.
eggssell
small hijack yet still related, so more a lowjack.anywhos, for the djing mob who use lappies in their setup, do y'all use powered hard drives or unpowered hard drives?at home i used a powered via fire wire, but if i play elsewhere im thinking of ditching the powered and having a portable one. but not sure how that works for traktor playlists

pulsebeat
yeppthen if for some reason you accidently wipe it off your laptop you can plug the HD in and load up while djing
mattus123
make sure you get a power supply with the 1TB harddrive aswellcause those things drain power from ur laptop if using one and are much slower without the power supply
tubby
places like officeworks and HT have 1Tb drives for about $75. at that price you'd be silly not to get a backup drive, all your work, photos, music collection has got to be worth an extra $
lloydc
I saw WD 1.5TB drives at office works yesterday for $100 (from memory)bargain
