andyman Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 So this afternoon I was proactive, and recorded my first mix.I thought it was an alright effort, but when I went to listen back to it, the lower end was really distorted and shitty. Is this a software problem, or due to me using a $2.95 RCA cable? Hobberz Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 What I found with recording in Audacity is that you really need to have a play with your settings to get it sounding any good. Will find a link to a video to give you some hints on some set up techniques. Quote
Hobberz Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 This video helped me to get my recording quality pretty good. Also make sure you don't have the gain on your mixer maxing out and turn down the record volume in Audacity until you find the sweet spot. Quote
pulsebeat Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 yep its all preferance to the laptop-computerbut a decent set of RCAs wouldnt harm anyone... in anycase your doing yourself a favor(will eventually need another pair of em) Quote
Jaz Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 i find if i have my mixer's volume's/gain's at normal speaker level it will distort a lot in audacity...just try dropping them down more then if you were playing threw speakers...worked for me Quote
ill_spector Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 make sure ur recording via line in, not mic, audio could just be being recorded via computer mic not direct(lol this happened to me the 1st time) Quote
andyman Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Ahhh, I think I may have recorded through the mic input instead. Will have a play around tonight and see if I can get a clearer sound.Spewing though, it was actually a decent mix Quote
CDJbpm Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I had a similar issue, the bass kick sounded distorted. I ended up turning the microphone output down to 1.0. Quote
andyman Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 That's what my problem wasI'll check it out when I get home.Thanks.+ rep Quote
