Software Differences

Hello all,

I have been browsing JB HIFI and have come across some software and was just wondering what is the difference between the two and ultimately which one should i be leaning towards.

Also i should mention that i will be purchasing cdjs and a mixer in the near future so i would be looking at software that complements the equipment.

NI TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO W/ CABLE 2 DECK

NI TRAKTOR PRO DJ SOFTWARE

All comments are welcomed and appreciated

Cheers Scott

Traktor Scratch Duo only runs a Audio 4 sound card unlike its bigger brother Traktor Scratch Pro which runs and Audio 8 sound card.

Audio 4 is only a 2 channel sound card so can only run 2 decks.

Audio 8 is a 4 channel sound card and you can run 4 decks with it.

Traktor Pro is just the software, no timecode cd's or Sound card.

As for the software itself, Scratch Duo is pretty much the same as Traktor Pro but just with some lesser features.

Prices on Traktor products are cheap at the moment due to a 50% off sale that Native Instruments announced at the end of last year but stock is becoming hard to come by now.

If I were you I would try and get my hands on Traktor Scratch Pro from somewhere. At the moment you could pick it up for about $100 or so more than the Scrath Duo pack. Than you have everything you need if you decide to use timecode cd's and you also have the 4 channel sound card. If you buy the Scratch Duo bundle you can still use timecode cd's but just at the moment with the prices you would be crazy not to buy the better version.

I recently purchased Traktor Scratch Pro from JB HI FI for $350, full price sticker on the box was $890. So rather worth it given its full retail price.

Other option is you could buy the Scratch Duo pack and buy the upgrade for the software so you are running Traktor Pro. You can buy the software from Native Instruments website at a discounted price because you have the Scratch Duo bundle.

Sorry for the long post, I went down this path only a month ago. Good luck and I hope I haven't confused the hell out of you.

i use tsp (traktor scratch pro) and havnt used my audio 8 soundcard at all because all the pioneer decks have HID mode (human interface mode), as im sure other brands do as well (ive only used pioneer decks). Basically what that means is you connect the two decks to your lappy via USB cable then load up there midi mapping tsi which enables you to run use them through traktor.

So if the only difference in price is because of the audio 8 and the software is still the same go for the cheaper option if youre looking at pioneer decks. I chose pioneer because at the moment its the industry standard, so you walk into 90% clubs and they will be running either 900's or 2000's

i cant comment on serato as i have no experience using it, but its good to see you are going decks/mixer and not just software djing

gandy - do you need some sound card on that setup? or does traktor feed back into the deck and the audio cable goes from there to the mixer?

I'd hold onto the audio 8 just in case - you might play somewhere with older cd decks that need timecode or want to use tt's one day. It's still a great soundcard, useful for other things and like you said, after the recent sale you won't get a great price for it compared to what it would cost to plreace

no sound card required, yes thats correct the audio cables from the decks go into the mixer. cuts down on cables/external sound card as you only need 2 usb cables, the audio cables for the decks and your mixer

the new traktor is out ina few days, hold out for that and see what it includes, then make a decision.

I knew I forgot to mention something. Has there been a price indicator for the new software yet?

I'd imagine it to be a similar price to previous versions.

TP would be ~$300 and TSP would be $800-1K I would imagine

thats only a guess, based on what the current version were worth on the NI website
