mikew598 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Big house party gig tonight looks like its going to storm in sydney i was just wondering of the dangerous with running all my equipment during a storm ? can i fry my gear? Quote
Hobberz Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 If you get a decent power surge you could fry your mixer. To be safe I would grab a surge protecter power board from somewhere. Better to be safe than sorry, Quote
mikew598 Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 all power board have a surge switch dont they ? Quote
Jaz Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 No not all, less then half have them built in, you have to specifically buy a surge protected power board, I only run them just in case.... They cost a little more but it's worth it Quote
Hobberz Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Not too sure. What I do know is my tv etc in my room is connected to a $5 power board. My plasma and ps3, and all my Dj stuff are running off $50 Belkin powerboard which is surge protected. Thats all my electrical knowledge My mate has a Monster brand surge protecter, cost him like $500 staff price. Its the size of an amplfier and has LED displays and shit. His 3D TV still blew up in an electrical storm. Unlucky much Quote
Jaz Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 By the way this thread should be in Accessories Quote
tubby Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 monster = crap. even at cost price it's still not good value Quote

Buck_Choi Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I sell some hectic surge at work lol. We sell them for about 300 and buy it in for about 80. Does over and under voltage 6 or 8 ports. Covers you for up to 50000 $ worth of goods and also life time warrantee. Haha I sound like a bot Quote
Buck_Choi Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 So if your in sydney and need a hook up pm me Quote
BeatLeSS Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Yup, only things i don't have surge boards for are my kettle and toaster.T.V/Computer/Stereo/DJ Equipment all on belkin surge boards. Most of the time they won't stop a storm (i.e lightning strike) But at least i know they're covered if they break.
