Jaz Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My Main/biggest local club has always had 2 resident DJ's, 1 recently got fired for being a lazy C*** and he also spilt his drink over the decks (2xCDJ2000's, DJM2000) not sure on the damage but the club owner said it was enough to get him sackedso anyway they are down to 1 DJ, they put a post on their facebook asking for a DJ, took up the offer....we'll see what happensHonestly dont think im up to scratch for a club yet, need to get my beatmatching better, but hey if i can get a thursday night when its a bit quieter its a start...better to get in now then the spot be filled n i dont get a shot Quote
JonnyB Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 tbh man i recon youll do fine if you get it, i play my best when im playing live...you dont try stupid stuff you know you dont have down pat, you just stick to what you know.e.g ill be mucking aroudn before a set, fuck up a few times. then go and play for 2 hours straight and pretty much dont fuck up once. your also more in the zone...i think playing lives inproves teh skillz.let us know how it goes anyway man Quote
Jaz Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 will do, gotta hear back from them yet but yeh fingers crossed cheers Quote
wazza Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 JB is right....I think you will do OK....Dont wait for them,.... keep on the club owner about it untill you get it....& good luck Quote
SourceRaver Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Go for it. If you get the gig a couple of things will happen:1) Your skills will improve a lot faster when your under a bit of pressure. Your motivation to concentrate harder and for longer increases a bucket load when in front of a crowd.2) Playing at the club is extra time practising and if your given a long set your be in the zone after an initial warm up period. In short...Fake it till you make it (trust me it happens more than you think)! Jaz Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 thanks lads, loving the motivational help, trust me if they were to give me a trial say next Saturday id be mixing my ass off till then Quote
Skank Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 good luck man tbh in most mainstream clubs now its not so much flawless mixing thats required more so the ability to keep throwin down popular tunes keppin the floor full and the bar busy Quote
Hobberz Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I agree with Skank, last time I went out I decided not to get too drunk and listen to the tracks the dj's are playing and what they are doing. 1st club was all electro tunes and they were just getting a track beatmatched and brining it in and throwing in an effect when fading out. I met the dj's outside having a smoke and got talking about it and one said to me "man I didnt do anything tonight" To give the guys credit on other occasions they have been sick, maybe they were just going easy because it was a quiet night.2nd club was RnB and all they were doing was just dropping the incoming track at the end of the one playing. Sometimes there was like a split second silence in between or the new track was started halfway through a word or chorus. It was pretty ordinary. Just be confident Jaz and you will be sweet. Good luck Quote
Jaz Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 yeh this club and my whole town in general is just pop, electro pop, house n thats about it....you very very rarely hear a song without lyrics Quote

Funky_Steve Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 DJaz keep in contact with this club. If their one DJ gets sick or can't work for whatever reason, they may need a back-up DJ. And if you're available on short notice, who knows where it may lead. Quote

And if you're available on short notice, who knows where it may lead. this. Might also help to go in on a quiet night once a week and just be seen there and have a chat to the dj/manager and have a couple drinks then head home, dont have to get wasted still stay under the limit so you can drive but it shows you have an interest in the venue.networking is very important in hospitality/entertainment industry and once you get to know a couple of contacts you will find doors really start to open as most club/venue owners are friends/assosiciates with the other venue owners Quote
