eggssell
otay its been a while since i listened to mixtapes, but been getting back into them (in particular dj moto's and kid kenobi's to get hip hop/ breaks transition help).anywho, just wanted to get confirmation that the difference in mentality b/w internet mixes versus full mix sets (be it for a mixtape or while in the club). for the latter you are more likely to play more of the song right?i.e. in a lot of the internet mixes (10 to 20 mins) songs are jumping every minute or two, but on mixtapes and im pretty sure in clubs songs go for longer 3-5 mins (or for some house tracks 7-8 minutes).i know there is no one formula but thought id see people's thoughts. i want to try and make a 30 min full mixtape, and at average 4 mins thats only about 8 songs. JonnyB
personally i tend not to play a track longer then 2 minutes in a club.

JonnyB
i dunno, maybe its just the genre's we play can get too repedative if we let it play out to the outro/most of the second drop....tend to let the first drop play, start mixing in my headphones through the break, if the break is long ill drop the next track in as the first track drops into the second drop, or ill start mixing into the second drop and do a fast transition.....all depends on the song your playing too
LabRat
if this makes sense.. i play full sets in a mini mix style. so i'll throw in a few mashups, a few cuts etc. i find it more exciting to be as busy as possible while mixing in a club
JonnyB
what spit says.....i absolutle HATE stading there.weve now got our laptop full of samples on some program, so we can run vocal loops over while the other guy is mixing, then swap over.... eggssell
yeah was trying to keep it to one verse than change tonight but cant pitch the songs quick enuff. the traditional hip hop tracks are 3-16 so 3 sixteen bar verses. but noticed people have thrown that formula out the window. cudi spits 3 twelve bar verses sometimes. D12 do 16 in frst verse then 24 in the next. kanye does verses into bridges into refrains into talking and chucks out the whole concept of verse/ chorus/ verse/ bridge or break/ verse.
