Hello all, long time no speak. my bad.

I just thought I'd post a dennis-like comment about the PPCA who have just released a new copy license - they call it tarriff Z.

http://www.ppca.com.au/IgnitionSuite/up ... 5B1%5D.pdf

What this means is that for $122 or so per year, you can make 250 copies of music you have bought - whether it be CD to computer, computer to ipod, etc.

According to my interpretation this means you could make, say, 1 copy of 250 different songs or 250 copies of 1 song, or 5 copies of 50, or anywhere in between of course.

I just thought I would mention this as it's a lot cheaper than the $900 or so that the APRA DJ copy license is, for those of you that don't have to take your entire 20,000 song library to every gig.

The only negative is that you have to already have a PPCA license - which mobile DJs will have already under tarriff F (you need this to perform in unlicensed venues anyway).

Anyway, hope this is useful! I certainly think this licence is a good step forward.

hey pill how does it work for traktor or serato users who buy the music online and put it on one hard drive and thats it.

i remember thinking they still need that digital conversion license because basically it changes the non commercial rights you have when you buy from beatport, juno, itunes etc into one where you have rights to use it for playong out.

I believe that in that case you haven't done any copying and therefore you wouldn't need that license (or any) to copy them.

I think you're referring to the ppca public preformance license. You need this if you're playing in an unlicensed venue, such as a community hall. If you buy a song legally you can play it at home or in headphones or something but this license allows you to play it to lots of people.
