lloydc Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I'm really having trouble lately finding tunes that I like. Everything seems to be same same lately, especially on beatport.I've tried looking through other genres and looked for new stuff on other websites, but hardly anything really catches my eye (or ear).Is it just me, or are other people having the same trouble? I mainly buy tech house and electro, but not fussed about collecting breaks, dubstep, techno etc etcthere just doesn't seem to be a lot of variety out there at the moment.... then again it may just be me. eggssell Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 go juno.pick one song from the chart or new releases. then check all the other artists on that label. then check what the first artist and all the other artists have remixed. then check all the tracks from the people they have remixed. then check who that person that was remixed has remixed.thats what i usually do and from one track you end up listening to like 20 (but i dont use the charts, i just have a list of about 100 tracks that i am working my way thru)...anywhos thats why i rection itll be a good idea if people list who they follow, look at, and just work from there. ive gotten shyte loads of leads from here.here are some of mine off the top of my head so wont genrefy. so start with one of these and then just follow the trail...:light yearcassiansporty-oloc-ewhiskey petedefunct!fukkk offfcalvertronspoek mathambodeekline/ defklinedousterdominique young unique (thanks jonny!)mursatmospherezincsneakbam bamkeith mackenziedj premier (comes out tomorrow!)nick thayer (had a good one with Ali B i copped a couple of days ago)pablo calamarianikislop rockknocked up noisenightblindcairoshifteQ Quote
chrismak Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 the trouble is that beatport is saturated with average tracks made from average producers/DJ's who want to make a name for themselves. You have to do a fair bit of searching to find anything decent.i usually save the artists and labels of the decent tracks i find so i get alerted when new ones get released. Quote
ChevChelios Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Listen to mixs/radio shows of your favourite DJs, they always have the newest and the best tunes, hit up the tracklist, buybuybuy. Quote
Tomy Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 i'd spend easy 5 hours a week on beatport and other sites digging through music etc and may only fing a couple of tracks i think are ok.back in the day this was called be digging through vinyl every fridat evening & most of the day satuday, then i moved to vinylwarning website cause it was quicker etc. i think a lot of people sometimes think things will be handed to them in th digital age. not saying thats you.just got to dig. listen to fav producers see whats on your fav dj's latest mix etc. Quote
tubby Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 listen to dj sets on line, find nice track, explore producers other tracks, follow people who bought this also bought, check stuff by that producer etc.Trawling the top 100, or the 1000's of new releases may be a structured approach but I tend to find less stuff that way compared to the whereever the trail leads approach. LabRat Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Everything seems to be same same latelyamen to this brutha! i've ditched the electro world and gone back to drum n bass just because of the pure shit thats out at the moment. a mate of mine was saying at stereosonic, everyone sounded the same and he was saying every dj played the same tunes. join the world of the broken beats Quote
tubby Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 found an old track I really like but never found about 4 years ago.. stll cannot find a digital copy, only a couple on vinyl on ebay uk. even my normal failsafe option of buying an old cd single from uk is not cutting it this time.infusion - girls can be cruel (infusion sq'd mix).if anyone comes across it on their searches, please let me know Quote
Ravni Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 man just listen to podcasts, radio shows and so on, BBC1 is pretty good, umm i sometimes stream radio metro from brissy best radio station in the country i rekon although all the songs on there i already have or know . But i usally stick to radio shows, mixes and podcasts and ull usally find set lists for them on the net Quote
lloydc Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 I've found a few new bits and pieces, but it's getting harder and harder to find good stuff these days.I think this is my cue to start making my own edits/remixes/mashups/tracks. Quote
eggssell Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 man theres plenty out there, i just cant afford them all! nor have enuff time to review them all.like tomy said you just have to digg.what i do these days is keep a list of tracks from people i follow, and as bove follow a trail and if i end up buying a track from a new artist, label, or remixer i follow them as well. my juno follow list is massive.then when i review tracks (which can be up to 20-50 at a time) i rank those that are okay, and even then maybe buy the top 5. and then do it all again on my next digging run.from iphone you can cehck beatport, juno isnt too crash hot on it, in fact as much as i love juno the actual site is such a dogg, hangs like a mofo. but it is good you can cue shyte loads of tracks in the juno player. then sometimes when i dont feel like going thru my list i just check songs that i added to my player in a previous sesh but didnt get around to listening too. Saving playlists so incase i don't listen to all the cue'ed up tracks i can come back to it? Juno sounds great for this function alone! Quote
eggssell Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 not in a cued fashion but you can put in a hold pin. you should buy from juno anywho works out cheaper. ever since tubby git me onto juno i only buy from beatport when there is no indication its gonna get to juno or i cant wait the month differential that some US joints take to go to juno. in fact sometimes some beatport restricted items are avail on juno from italian or german labels. CBG Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 has anyone mentioned soundcloud yet? That is a fuckig gold mine. for example deadmau5 has one and it has some of more creative artistic shit. But heaps of other crap. I get so much unsigned music, by just asking for it. Quote
lloydc Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 i do listen to stuff on sound cloud, and you're right... there are often a few gems on there. Quote
