I've never pre-planned a set, funny enough. Probably why so many of them fail .. lol

Every now and then a gem comes out of it, or at least a good hour or so you can pluck from a 4 hour recording that sounds ok.

Most of teh house parties i've done involve a 5-6 hour set. it hurts towards the end but its all good fun.

In terms of preperation, I make a setlist as best I can and have it on my laptop next to me so I dont have to start choosing tracks on the fly.

lol is that all

try working from 8pm to 6am

thats when clubs use to open and when the america's cup was in it was even longer days...

so been there done that

what else you wanna know how hard it gets

today its easy to do 6x hrs without a break

one magic word to make your long set so much easier

SERATO

keep track of songs you have already played keeps your head open to the tracks you forgot about in the bottom of your virtual crate

thats where being a professional dj

you never play the same song more than once a night period

you get to play more tracks and when you played a track put it aside so you wont play it again

been doing that for a long time...

done som every long after party sets, 10+ hours. generally only preperation was enough beer and other things to keep going.

and a lot of records.

I'm going to agree with this one.

Did a house party this weekend and just packed my bag with as many tunes as i could squeeze in (considering the crowd that would be there) and made sure i had plenty of beer :D

Set lists don't allow you to work with the vibe of the party as it moves along

the most planning i'll do is ogranise my tunes in to some sort of style classifications makes it a little easier.

Tunes and lots of them... usually anthing over 4 hours i'll take a second bag of records.

but now with serato it's still one create of tunes serato (still have a small digi library)
