Robsta
Hi guys, I've decided to buy a setup. My max budget is about $1000 (if you can suggest something a lot better for a little extra it's no biggie). The music I wish to play/mix is Rap/Hip-Hop and Dubstep(high priority) but at the same time not something too specialized that I wont be able to doodle in other genres. What mixers you would recommend, turntables, etc.Any suggestions would be much appreciated! lloydc
buy traktor scratch pro while its still cheap, then hunt for a few cheap turntables and a mixer.
Jaz
It depends...Do you want CD Turntables?Vinyl Turntables? or do you want to run Controllers with software such as Virtual DJ, Serato, Traktor etc....?
Robsta
I actually have no idea. Maybe something to hook up to the computer.

eggssell
hey mate based on your genres id say go turntables, and as above get traktor scratch pro, unless you have access to shyte loads of vinyl or are willing to spend bigg on shyte loads of vinyl.TSP is on sale right now till dec, you can order online for $350 but its a month and counting wait; or go to a retail store and get it for $400 (one of the retailers are also doing $400 on ebay, or they were).i guess prob is that only leaves you with $600. so unless you got some chev luck you may struggle to find a turnie set for that much. especially with technics hysteria driving 1200 prices up, which has in turn pushed people out of that market into the super OEM market which is now driving their prices up. eggssell
oh and in terms of recommendations for turnies, given your price value i'd say techs are out so look to second hand super OEMs. These actually have higher torque than the Techs and offer straight arm so are preferred by some turntablists. some actually also offer bells and whistles which you wont use:Stanton ST-120; STR-120; ST-150; STR-150American Audio HTD4.5Citronic PD45Omnitronic DD5250Reloop RP6000i have the ST-150's which are great but are not cheap. a few peeps here have also rated the HTD4.5. Funky_Steve
Or if you can pick up a Traktor Kontrol S4 it comes with the Traktor software, all for around the $1k mark. Could be a good place to start and then you could look at CDJs or turntables further down the track if you want to.

Funky_Steve
and a soundcard (unless it's built into the midi controller)

Robsta
Hmm there seems to be three types of midi controllers. A keyboard, a mixer type thing with the knobs and such and a mixer with a turntable.

I have a friend that works at audiophile in Melbourne so I can get Grado (da bess) headphones for dirt cheap. Or if there's something better or more DJ orientated. And I think I will get the S4 Kontrol in the end.
