Gandy Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 hey all, ive got my very first gig coming up on the 23rd. After getting some club experience i should feel pretty comfortable at a house party right? It will be in Redcliffe and its for my cousins bday. Looking at around 30ish ppl some including cousins/family so should be a nice way to ease into it.any tips for this virgin gig? We are hiring all the equipment (2x cdj-900 1 x djm 800) and speakers as well (not sure what these will be im hoping self powered)all im taking down is my lappy/audio 8/timecode cds/xd's. Is there anything i should look out for/do in preparation apart from practising my arse off and continue to add to my music library?appreciate the help Quote
eggssell Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 maybe ask your cuz for what songs/ bands he wants (maybe like ask for 10), then build a crate from that.not build a set just a crate of tracks in traktor using those 10 as the basis. that way you can still play on the fly and responding to the crowd, while still hitting all the stuff he likes.and no reason why you cant dig your collection for more on the fly, but at least you have some tracks at the ready.oh yeah thats just what i would do if i were gigging. the last "gig" i had was in the early 90's when i carted my milk tray of vinyl on my skateboard to someones house for a massive bday party. and they had rented some tt's, speakers and lights Quote
Buck_Choi Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 hmm.. we have a list somewhere of what to bring ill try dig it up..but also bring CD's of the songs they want just incase laptop dies. also... bring a spare adaptor for your headphones the 3.5mm to 2.5 or somecrap forgot what it was.. but yeah. besure to bring an extra one in your bag. incase you lose it or something stupid happens. lloydc Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 do yourself a favour and buy something like thishttp://www.jbhifionline.com.au/music/po ... ngs/576541a whole bunch of top40 stuff both past and present that will take up a whole lot of time so you can actually enjoy yourself at your cousins birthday, and have a mix later on when the time is right.start slow and increase the tempo and energy throughout the night. with only 30odd people there, you would be able to play everyone's requests. Skank Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 if u hired from djwarehouse the speakers will be self powered, just make sure you have a variety of music house partys are notorious for genres to change every few songs Quote
JonnyB Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 yeah man what everyone else said, look at Djaz's last gig before he went on the cruise, all these kids asking for a bunch of stuff he didnt have, he ended up having a pretty shitty time.just get loads of music of diffrent genre's.House, Breaks, funk, top 40, all that shit, remix's of big songs (like ACDC remix's a bit of hiphop, some rap remix's, some disco and what not(old disco and nu school disco) Quote
CBG Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 put a barrier up so whales cant reach ur table.. htye have to go round the side if they want to talk to you. My first party gig after 5mins of playing someone spilt a drink all over my cds and on one of my cd players... awesome... Quote

Jaz Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 if you've played in clubs then party's will be pretty easy i guessand you know the people at the party and 30 isnt alot so im sure you wont have any hassles or problemsGood luck mate Quote

Not just what you want to play or hear. This is in the Mobile DJ section after all.i was about to argue till you pointed out this was the mobile dj section haha. i was about to say yall should be djing for the love of playing what you like to play, not to please other people(although doing both at the same is extremely rewarding)but ive never been in the mobile dj game cept for a few mates hosue parties which ill never be doing again haha.if you've played in clubs then party's will be pretty easy i guessand you know the people at the party and 30 isnt alot so im sure you wont have any hassles or problemsGood luck mate the longer you play in clubs the more you hate house parties.Clubs keep dick heads away from the gear, and generally(unless its an opening tim slot set or something) you get to play what the fuck you want and its what the people want to hear. which makes it twice as awsome Quote

Gandy Posted November 7, 2010 Author Posted November 7, 2010 im thinkin house/prog house early in the night, throwing in cheese every 3rd or 5th track, then when people start to charge up and wanna dance throwing down some electroclub i had a lot of fun as previous ppl have mentioned, bouncers keep wankers away and get to play what i want and the sound system is dopei just hope i wasnt spoilt by getting to jump into club first then go to this party and hate life lol Quote
Jaz Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 if there's gonna be 15-17 year olds there, and if there anything like the 15-17 year olds here then expect to get asked for alot of jason deroooooolo, rihanna, flo rida, lil wayne, pitbull and all that shit.... Quote
FabDJ Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Want to use the Pubs house speakers and their amp for background music streaming from my mixer monitor outputs and have my amp and speakers/sub on main output for dance time.Pubs speakers are about a dozen ceiling flush mounted 8" things that are used for ipod music. I thought of having the sub on low for a bit of meat also. Dance time perhaps the house sound will add a bit of detail to my mushy speakers sound. Can always balance the three, house mine and sub.Sound ok?. Quote
