gcdj Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 do you ever get stuck in the middle where half the crowds asking for 80's music and the other for top hits? Quote
CBG Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 havent done much mobile work, but certainly at a club i've been asked to play contrasting genres. I just pick my target crowd, set time, what club owner wants and stick to it.I think the same methods apply in mobile.I would just go over requests one by one. suss out which ones are for real (more than one single person wants it) and go for it Quote
pulsebeat Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 yeah agree with chrisif its like a hens night at a hotel or such and it isnt that busy your better off playing their requeststhe owners will love you for itmore drunk chicks= more drinks= more guys = more profit Quote
Jaz Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Only DJing I do is mobile, sept mine is all teenage party's so I Mainly carry newish pop and pop classic, plus just as much house for when I get sick of trying to mix pop (fucking annoying)but I often get asked for hardcore rap n shit n just tell the bloke or chick I don't have any, thankfully, cause I don't wanna play any "Lil Wayne" Quote

Skank Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 lmao johhny spot on, i believe that early in the night requests are important but at peak time its up to you alone to keep the energy on the floor Quote
Funky_Steve Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Seeing how this is in the Mobile DJ section I assume OT is refering to a party or function as opposed to a nightclub scenario. If you get conflicting requests then just explain that you will play the other type of music soon. When doing a function where the crowd is quite varied (i.e. young as well as old) I try to play music in sets of 3 or 4 songs per genre with some sort of transition track in between (ie 3 or 4 80's party tracks followed by a recent remix or remake then into some current top 40 tracks, etc). pill Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 In my experience, if the crowd is loving the genre you're playing, then stick with it. If you're going through the setlist we're playing with in another thread (pure cheese) and someone asks for usher or something, tell them you'll 'try' and fit it in and then if the dance floor ever goes awol, chuck it on then. Varying age gigs (like surf clubs, etc)The only exception to this is of course if the bride, groom, birthday girl etc ask for a song in which case your hands are tied with the exception of "sorry i didn't bring it with me".
