sl-3 is just an update on the sl-1 soundcard. it has an extra output and better sound quality, though the serato software doesn't support a 3rd deck yet, so if you buy it now you are only getting better sound.

maybe when something comes of this partnership with ableton this thing will show it's potential, for now I think it was done mostly for the sake of releasing something, all their competitors have made major release whilst seratos really not done a lot.

depends on what you want. djwarehouse is offering trade in of the SL1 when you upgrade to an SL3, but they're sitll charging you $700+ for that upgrade. no idea what they are reselling the sl1's for.

and remember the serato software is free, you can download it anytime and mess about with keyboards, but you need the hardware to open up the time-code function

it's an upgrade to the soundcard, and when ableton and serato release their joint venture thingy you will need to have sl3 to use it.

pretty much trying to get a better soundcard on the market (like traktor)

as far i'm aware serato is getting to be the standard in this sort of software. eg clubs installing the boxes so you can plug in and play
