always asked by many

(so maybe make this thread a sticky)

AUDACITY

DL- http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

this is the easiest way, and most people will recommend it

if thats still confusing, heres the basic rundown

install the program first of all, then to connect your gear to you computer

use a RCA to headphone jack cable

HRCA.jpg

you can buy these from most electronics/audio stores etc

$4 on ebay aswell ;P

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-5mm-Headphones ... 821wt_1139

ok, now that goes from your Booth out/ or record out, from your mixer,

mixer2.jpg

and then into your "line in" (next to headphones in) on your computer

No line in? use the microphone in :)

configure as shown in video, press record, sweet as :P

But i wanna be lyke a superstar youtube dj like Dj bl3nd, heez likke my heerooo

an easy way to record your mix with video :P

WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER

pretty much same concept, same cable n such,

easy to do with a laptop, as there is a webcam in most modern day pc's

do settings, (capture video) done, upload to youtube (become a hero)

(as per video, better quality will come with a better soundcard, so maybe something to invest into)

behringer u control (shown in vid)

http://www.djwarehouse.com.au/studio-ge ... rface.html

still confused?? just rewatch the vids :)

hope this answers any questions, happy recording!

So I have a quick question.

Has anyone used a Macbook pro (13inch) to record their mix? Because as you may know, it only has one slot for the input and output... Just curious if anyone encountered any problems while doing this.

Cheers

I have the 15" version so don't have that problem. You'll get better quality audio if you use a cheap external USB soundcard such as this:

You can pick one up for $60 posted here:

is there any other way besides audacity

it makes the kicks sound really weird and makes it sound out of time

when im actually djing and listening to it through the headphones its in time

then the recorded version stuffs ups the kicks and it sounds all out of time :S

thats because its out of time....

that happens alot, you might have shitty headphones or have your headphones blasting so you can tell your kicks are a little bit out.

what audacity records is EXACTLY what comes out of the mixer....

ive done it a few times recording a mix, thought it was sweet, then re-listned to it and a few mixers wer a bit out.

mind you i was using shot headphones with only 1 ear working :)

your probs right

but its rally weird coz u listen to it through the main speakers while your mixing and it sounds fine

even at parties when im blasting 15inch speakers it all sounds in time :S

was a shock for me

it will also be because at a party your speakers are facing the crowd/D-Floor and usually not you, so you probly feel the bass more then directly hear it

no. you can play a mix in a club and it will sounds fine, because it is so loud and alot of low end...

play that exact same mix through your computer speakers and youll notice the fuck ups. because the mid and high end dosent have to compete with all the low end sub bass. so if your kicks are the tinest bit out youll notice through the computer speakers, but through a big system it will seem like your doing a flawless mix :)
