Jaz
Anyone own/use/used 1?any good? how much does it help you produce? is it Noob Friendly?cheers
CBG
I've used one, wont help you produce though.. imo.As I've said before, a good knowledge of your DAW and a MIDI keyboard will help
Jaz
ok, thought it would help recording the full song once the production is doneDAW?
CBG
launchpad is good for performing live, launching premade clips. I spose it would be gd if u made entire songs on the fly...DAW= digital audio workspace
Jaz
ok cheers, will probly still get it not really expensive anyway lol
Tomy
i've got one of these.in no way will it help you to produce IMO.its mainly for launching clips / mixing / live drums in abelton. good fun though.
Buck_Choi
could you also use it for cue points, starting songs, loading songs? etc? cutting beats loops ... umm start/stop effects? wet/dry effects and all that?
Jaz
would be great if it had a built in effects CPU or something so it could be used like a Kaoss pad or something lol
CBG
Its kinda hard for me an TOMY to tell you whats it for if you dont know what session view looks like in Ableton. It's very simple... get a APC20/40 if you're looking for perform. To produce, jsut get an axiom or axiom pro keyboard
Tomy
you can control effects that you load in to abeltonnot sure about cue pointsstarting songs (launching clips)= yeswatch some of the vids on youtube about it most of them give you a good overview of what it can do. its essentially a performance tool

Buck_Choi
im considering getting one of these. but im scared that i wouldnt be able to map it to my liking..would i be able to map it for effects and be able to adjust the wet and dry?? like the "mixer" mode on the launchpad?
Tomy
you can map anything you want to it.
Buck_Choi
yeah.. but actually doing it.. i have no skill in mapping anything.. so im scared i'd just give up on trying to map it if its too hard.
simulation
Ok so I'm no pro at it although the guys at BNE storedj helped me underhand it better. Basically best thing I've fou d about it is that you can produce individual small parts of a track eg a drum beat in one then more extencive beat in another pad. Then you can either record and launch each clip to creat a full track or do the same thing in a live show rather than record. It is noob friendly if someone shows you the basics of ableton I know this kos I was in your position 3 weeks ago lol
Jaz
cheers man, thinking about just saving n going APC40 if i get good enough with ableton
simulation
Yeah sweet the idea of a launch pad isn't exactly for production in the same way mpc style pads are if that makes sence. I recommend buying the mpk28 I think it is for production sometimes it's benifical to have keys and with the mpk you have both pads and keys. I have the mpk61 only because I'm learning keyboard and needed more keys but I havnt even scratched the surface of it's abilitys and it can be used with everything the same way not just ableton andit basically self maps so yeah just something to think about but I'm just learning and shit so yeah
Trip
I use mine for controlling loops and cue points in traktor. If you get a program called Katapult, you can create custom maps and designate what buttons do what, and the colours they light up.very handy. Buck_Choi
awesome ill look into that trip thanks really considering buying one.. :S would i be able to use one of the "mixer" buttons to launch and adjust the Wet/dry effects..? would it be hard to map..? thanks.
Trip
im not sure that the 'mixer' button is freely mappable.if you're referring to katapult, you can use a range of buttons as faders, or an XY pad, toggle, pad switches, etc. I think the only way to use the 'mixer' button would be a custom app running in the background. something like Max4Live.
