who do you call on for inspiration for DJing?

me, id have to say deadmau5

why? i dunno, love his music, the fact that he built it all himself from the underground, he's just some skinny little white nerd so his fame has nothing to do with appearance etc

yehp!

i look at the people on adjf who post up killer mixes; get on radio; get killer gigs; and produce hot tracks..thats no joke yo, i really like when one of you homies get a score.

oh and a-trak (as a dance dj/ producer not a turntablists), z-trip & kid kenobi are pretty inspirational in that i love their mixing styles.

a little off track yet related to the two peeps you guys said above. what are peoples take on producers cum dj's who get gigs from actual dj's (as oppossed to back in the day, you had the likes of pete tong or dr dre or guru who were dj's first and then started producing) .

i know we all go on about "fake dj's" scoring gigs because they can bring a million mates; they act; they have big boobs; they suck dick etc. but ive read twice now (i know one dude was from busy p's label i cant remember the other dude, maybe one of the bigg dutch dudes) of producers who got booked dj gigs based on their remixes/ production which were killing the clubs, and they both admitted they knew absolutely nothing about djing. one dude learnt on the tour bus off other peeps on his label, while the other one did the digital dj thing until someone taught him how to use a cdj.

isnt that pretty shitty in terms of the whole too many fake people in the dj world.

i mean a dj who produces and uses that to break their dj career (as we've said in a million threads its a great way to break into the scene) is fair enuff; but booking an absolute noob to do a set! how is that different from getting paris hilton into the booth to move the cross fader across.

EDIT: not saying that deadmaus or trek used their production to get booked dj jobs, it was more that they are producers first and foremost

nah eggs i honestly think its gd and its the way it is now.

Its hard to tell if somone cannot DJ. But I dont like to think of it has DJing. "Deadmau5 is gunna come and perform."

Production is fuckin haaard, harder than DJing imo. And ppl are getting rewarded for this hard work.

Where as some DJs just get gigs because they know ppl, I've seen heaps of DJs in Melb who arent half the DJ I am and still get bookings all week.

I can forgive digital DJing if its a producer...

no this dude in the interview said he had no idea about djing what so ever. so he just played back to back some of his remixes, some mates remixes and whatever was hot. thats the bit that i thought, hmmmm there are plenty of good djs out there and they are probably bumping your shyte already making you famous, you don't need to be taking their job too!!!!

and im not talking about the peeps who pretty much mix/ produce/ play out live on stage. your right thats a performance. im talking straight up doing a dj set only because they are famous.

and yeah of course, production is a million times harder.

i mean like its all good that all y'all on here would never get up and dj without knowing how, and its all good these peeps eventually learned because they wanted to, i just dont think its right to say "hey everyones loving your remix we want you to come in the booth so we can put you on the flyer". again how different is that to a celebrity dj.

fark im trying to rack my brain who the dj's were so i can grab the interviews. im pretty sure one wa sin dj mag, then the other one was just online. it stuck in my head because i read both in the same week.

and for the record i liked both the producers and reckon now they probably kill it in the booth, was just taken aback by the comment.

okay back to topic (sorry djaz).

i am also a fan of peanut butter wolf. i dont know a hella lot about him and only heard like 2 or 3 mixes, but saw him on sunglasses is a must then heard his scion mix and read about his label and think he's pretty cool in that he uses a lot of old old school in his mixes (jazz, blues, and stuff)

I have seen many a you tube vid of the so called super dj or whatever eg tiesto, loco dice, sven vath kooking it that hard that it makes you wonder who is tripping more the star or the gurners in the crowd loving the trainwreck over and over again.

Has anyone else noticed how all of a sudden every club dj in sydney, goldy ,brisbane is releasing music on big labels and they cant even mix properly. they have buddies high up who seem to make the music for them. they sit in a studio for a few hours give some ideas and presto 2 weeks later old mate has their track done.Instant credability in the scene no one can doubt them.

How the fuck.... production is so hard it takes years just to make basic stuff that sound ok.

that or you have spare thousands and spare time to do a sae course even then you would need more or you are a genius.

One more problem if your not cool enough no label will ever pick you up no matter how good your music is.

fuck the club scene in australia it deserves to die a slow death with all these new laws because the people at the top are talenless ego driven cats. why should they make so much money when I have to do my shitty job I can mix better than any of them and there are many others. seems that seamless mixing aint important anymore

Hmmm I will admit i used to be part of the problem. That being that most people dont actually recognise "Good Music"....Its only when you have to step up n do it yourself that you truely relise how much time effort and skill goes into makeing one simple seamless mix. Let alone an hour or more of a clean well played set.

As most guys on here know there are so many club DJs that use so many effects that anyone could do it.

Anyway Im with eggssell in that i give my respect to the ADJF users that do it right. (In a Sense)
