LabRat Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 played out last night and it went well. but just wanted to ask if you guys thought this is weird.i've been doing this for always - i write out a tracklist and i keep it in my cd wallet for reference if i ever need it. i was thinking to myself last night whether it makes me look a lil incompetent? i see it the same as the guys who play serato etc who already have their tracklists set out in front of them.what do you guys think about this?i'll probably continue to do this as its now habit for me but just looking to hear who does what Quote
Jaz Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 if your venue DJing your expected to be prime as and close to perfect, so i say the more prepared the better! Quote
CBG Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I wing all my gigs. How do you play to a crowd when the order of tracks is allready predetermind? For really important mixes I figure out tracklist ie. ones live on radio Quote
Nik469 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 but if you wing it, how do you know when the best time to bring in the next track is? Quote
Skank Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 theres nothing wrong with having a track list, i got the worst memory in the world while im playing but thats where my crates in serato help a lot@Nik469- you should know the tracks at least enough to know how they all start and end just practice once or twice before your gig and youll remember Quote
Rodderz Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I have a rough set list but play to what the crowd react to.Have a start song and a great big finisher, but just build up to there. Quote
AndyTraxx Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I have always wondered the same thing. I tend to do half half.If im doing a DJ comp or a super important gig, i might jot down a track list just to be safe. Playing deep house / soulful house you can usually get away with winging it all and still make it sound good :-)I think the only thing that catches me out with winging it is if i dont know my music very well and i need to sift through a few cds on the fly. With my CDJ1000's you can preview each track in seconds (a quick flick through is too easy!) With the CDJ900's there is AT LEAST a few seconds delay on loading each track. ARGHHH. so annoying.Anyone else get this same problem? Especially when winging gigs? Quote
