DJ_Shiver
Ok so i've just started out, got myself quite a good setup. Worked on my style, listened to different songs, created and edited some good playlists, and practised them to make them sound smooth. Except the one thing i struggle to do is Beatmatch my current song with the one i have cued up. I mean i'm not terrible, and the next song doesn't just hit you, but it can sound a bit dodgey sometimes. My question is should i keep practising on it for a while, or would i be able to get away with only being ok with it and going out to smaller clubs and getting a bit of experiance? Buck_Choi
Welcome to the forum :] I say keep on practising, record a mix send it to a few of your friends ask them if they find it a bit too much with the transitions and beats. or even post it up here and you will get a load of feedback =] Peace. Ps - post in the intro section ^.^

CBG
I'd say practice while you look for work... getting gigs doesnt happen over night. And depends opn what clubs, if they want you to play tech, prog, tracne etc.... forget about it.If its top 40, rnb etc. go for it

I personally cannot stand clubs that play rnb, top 40 etc. Or am I not drinking enough coffee and misreadin the post?
Jaz
because if you go into a respectable club and fail to mix trance you will be murdered for even trying when u dont have it down pat, + that club probly wont hire you againas for the Top 40 part, well you dont really mix top 40 cause its all different BPM's and genre's, basically what ever 16 year old girls are voting into the top 10 so its just chop n change n fade in n fade out, so you can get away with that.... Skank
hey man why dont you post what the two songs are and a few of us will try mixing it together and youll see what the different results can be
DJAdumbration
Good points. I suppose trance is probably the easiest to mix and also the one where any stuff ups will be especially noticeable and if you can't even get that right, well...Cheers
Ravni
practice you will eventually get good at it. Iif u have mates that are dj's observe wat they do, play some tracks out together you'll get there. Rely on your ears as well or do wat i did for the first few months, cover the beat counters on your cdj's and persist to feel the music and mix ur songs in purely based on your ears. Find it more soothing as well lol the best advice know ur tracks,
DJAdumbration
I started off with the $400 all-in-one from JB HiFi. No beat counters at all! Was good to learn on, but once you want to play for anybody else - upgrade!Definatley agree on knowing your songs inside and out. Know where the break downs are, know where the beat, melody, vocals etc come and go. And most importantly, trust your ears. Even the best beat counter can get it wrong! CBG
trance is one of the hardest because their tempo can very from 130-140 or more... definetily not the easiest

lloydc
how about terrorcore?
tubby
trance is the easiest, but also the most limiting. relatively similar bpm range, easy beats. The problem comes as it is so full of melodies that it really limits what you can do with it. but for practising it works ok, just mix outro to intro. PVD's tracks tho (not his most recent poppy stuff) is good to learn on
