experience on what? not how to use cdjs thats for sure.

it doesnt teach you how to cue up cdjs (ive tried twice of course without reading anything to set a cue and couldnt figure it out), set off loops, or use all those effects that djs do now a days.

and it doesnt give you anymore/better experience in how to beatmath, pick tracks, watch crowd.

experience on how to use a turntable yeah sure it gives you that.

dont get me wrong i love my turntables and it was never in my mind to get anythin else. i just dont think people who use turntables are part of some elite club, nor are they any better for the sheer fact they use turntables.

I never said they are any better. I just think that learning on vinyl is like getting a manual lisence, I got my manual lisence and drove a manual for a year before I switched over to an Auto, sure, its takes some getting use to, not changing gears consistantly and not watching your revs and not needing to really worry about anything except the road ahead of you and steering.

Thats probably a bad annalogy. Im really tired, it probably makes no sense

no worries bro, wasnt having a go. i just never vibe with the elitism in djing (turntable users hate on cdj users who hate on contrellerists who will one day hate on something, ipads maybe).

Im starting on vinyl, I honestly think you build more experience this way

there is no better way to learn how to beatmatch manually IMO.

the combination of incredible tactile control and instant response in audio is nearly equalled by cdjs and the best gen of controllers but only turntables wont even give you a bpm readout to get a clue off (unless you have one on your mixer).

Eggs is right about cdjs having loads more functions too. CDJs have built and earnt their reputation by inspiring so many new styles of DJing which cannot be reproduced on vinyl alone.

-In my tuition I start kids on cdjs coz they are tactile but wont skip.

-When they get the swing of things we move to vinyl so they can work on their beat-matching.

-Then we go back to cdjs and introduce controllers so they can get a grip on loops, cues, fx etc.

-Then I let them choose how they want to specialise.

-I get about 50/50 split between those who choose vinyl and those who choose digital.

-Then we discuss the costs of running with one system or other and buying music over and over in the necessary format.

-Things get weighted towards digital at that point.

-Then I confuse them by bringing mixer functions into the equation! But I think starting this way helps them understand the differences in dex for themselves so they can make an informed decision later on.

-It also helps them avoid a lot of forum thread debate lol!

oh and i use and love everything, but havent bought vinyl this century.

In no way do I think CDJ users or Controll users (I am looking at a Traktor set up soon anyway) are "lesser DJ's" infact I respect all kinds of DJ's. Weather you mix with CDJs, TTs, iPads, Tapes. It doesnt matter as long as it sounds dope
