FabDJ Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Went to a 18s party at a scout hall in East shit creek. The hired Dj did not turn up so a replacement Djwas sent by the same company. He was from an eastern country.Played Abba music all night. Kept asking people to get up and dance but nobody could understand him.The only person dancing was birthday girl and her friend cause daddy paid for the diaster and she had too. Quote
SourceRaver Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Had a 21st on the same night as the AFL grand final at a local sporting club. The crowd consisted of myself and friend, two bar staff, two security guys, birthday girl...and about 5 friends max at any given time!Friends PA spat the dummy after about 45 minutes but luckily we hooked into the house PA system and used my JBL Eon monitor as 'front fill'. I then chucked the shits at my friend as he kept turning up the volume on the JBL. Took us both a while to work out that the volume control on the rear was twisting with the vibration by itself. Had to get the speaker reconed after the gig so I didnt even cover expenses.Birthday girl kept comming up to us (eyes rolling arround in the back of her head if you get my meaning) and saying "I'm just not feeling it"...We weren't feeling it either Quote
FabDJ Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 HahahahahahPisser source.Had some diasters of my own doing but I wont tell as I dont wont to set a bad example to our newbies. Quote
SourceRaver Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Same friend and I did the set up for the side room of an all ages gig. The room was tiny and the temp inside was so high that the thermal protectors on my powered speakers did their thing and shut the speakers down. Luckily I had a couple of fans (meant for the DJ!) that we gaffer taped to the heatsinks. Worked a treat but boy was it hot in there!Found out later that the thermal protectors cut in at 44 degrees. Was Dj'ing at another gig in a garrage and having a great old time when one of my speakers started to make a 'tsk...tsk...tsk' noise. I turned down the volume and discovered it was the police bashing on the roller door! It was about 3 in the morning so we decided it was a good time to call it quits. Quote
FabDJ Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Did a new years eve party and was 50-50 The 20s wanted their music and danced but the oldies wanted their music and danced so had to juggle song sets to keep both sides happy. The good missus having had a few, became spokesperson for the oldies and gave me grief all night. FabDJ Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 So this old fart looks like Uncle Fester from the Adams Family comes in. I bring his resemblence to the attenion of the crowd (footy club gig anything goes) ask him to put a light globe in his mouth. Get a good laugh. He's not happy, so comes over later to tell me I've played the same song twice. I say something calming like "so fuckin what." Now I've got it in for him.He goes for a piss and I notice he has emptied his stubby. So I half fill it up with water, the table is in on it. When he gets back he has a swig and sprays the table. Huge laugh all round.Nothing came of it really, a few pushes and shoves. Quote
pill Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 ontopic: the only major issue i've had (luckily no equipment failures) is not allowing enough time for set up.At every gig, getting the music right for the crowd is the mobile DJ's toughest job, hands down. No matter how many weddings, 18ths, school gigs, 21sts, or 40ths you do, the tastes of each crowd are never predictable. The hardest thing to do sometimes is bite the bullet and ask the crowd what they want if no one is dancing, and be prepared to play things you would never have dreamed of just to get the dance floor going in the first place. A DJ who is a wank and continues to play music the crowd dislikes will be remembered (and his business name shamed) for it.Even if it means playing shitty r&b all night when you thought that 16 year olds generally like top 40 / dance music. troyboy Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 The first time I played to a few people it was a mates 18th at local footy club, I was using numark total control and virtual dj and my laptop crashed about 4 times.... lucky it was just for fun not money..... so i got drunk and put on playlist. didnt turn out so bad.The police have also spoiled things for me... noise complaints can screw things up badly so its not a bad idea to remind who ever asks you to come that it will be loud and there may be people around who dont like doof doof shaking their house. Quote
pill Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I agree, i havent played any events that have been shut down but have definately been to parties that have been destroyed by grumpy neighbours. Quote
FabDJ Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Seem there is two levels of loudDance loud that is tolerated by neighbours up to 3am in the morning,And loud loud that is the favourite with 16-18 year olds that gets closed down by the cops at about 11.30-12am.I'm sure some DJ's phone and complain about their own music so they can go home early if its a shit party. ruggs Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 i've been shut down a few times by police.the complaints from one party weren't from next door but 2 streets away lol..the party was registered and letter box dropped around the house so i think the neighbours thought they couldn't complain lol Quote
