SourceRaver Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Talk to the person whos having the party and find out what they expect from you. They may want hardtrance but chances are his/her friends will want a range of styles (probably chart or top 40). The more music you can take the better. Take some chilled music to play early when people are arriving and then build the tempo from there.Play what they want until they get drunk and then bring on your own music. Be patient and you may get a chance to play the music you like.Be patient with requests (usually from very drunk people). Just say "I'll play it if I have it". Sometimes the craziest requests get the best response from the crowd and sometimes they clear the dancefloor. Most importantly....Have Fun! Quote
CBG Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I played Blink 182 - whats my name again in a club once... they loved it lol Quote
ruggs Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 i usually drop blink at house partys lol always works....mix with all genres and it usually pleases people...drunk requests are the worst tho lol Quote
gcdj Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 pretty much every house party i dj for i always play nutbush city, ymca and why cant we be friends when everyone gets really loose. I've played these at every party with drunk people whether its a 40th or an 18th they always go off. Quote
pill Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 yeah. my friend / apprentice dj convinced me to drop all the small things at an 18th recently and it went off. i suppose the hardest thing to start off doing mobile gigs is having a large enough range of music. Quote
