ryaank
im in the process of setting up a new record label. Im trying to sort out the best way contract wise to get something made up. I know I will most likely need a lawyer but just wondering if anyones able to recommend me a good music lawyer regarding contracts etc and how much i may be looking at for something like this just so i can get a rough idea. Open to any suggestions Thanks very much
Mitch
Hey man, I have no experience in this area so I have nobody to recommend, but definitely a legal professional who specialises in this area will have a template they can edit to suit you. Speak to friends who’ve done this before if you know any - even if you don’t know someone, if there’s a local label you like just drop them a message on their most active social platform and (if they’re nice enough) they’ll probably point you in the right direction. @LabRat may also have some helpful info? @Tomy has a label but haven’t seem him active on here for a while. Tomy
yo! i'm back! Thanks for the mention @Mitch i couldn't even tell you the laywers name it was that long ago for Shabang Records & Hi-Tech Records that i got all of that stuff sorted. I would get in touch with APRA / AMCOS and ask them if the can reccomend someone local for you to use. https://www.apraamcos.com.au/ they should be able to point you in the right direction. Failing that if you has a distro company handling your releases they should be able to help you also. I've been with Xelon for years. Hope that helps. 🖖 Mitch and Cupe
LabRat
I used a local lawyer here in Perth but like Tomy said, the best place to start is with APRA AMCOS. There's a few distribution sites that can help set you up but it's always good seeking legal advice regardless. Cupe and Mitch
