Hey guys, I've seen it here before but I don't really have the time to look.

Can someone tell me or direct me to a good insurance joint for insuring my decks.

Situation: I bring my decks to a club/party and someone spills a drink on my CD player. That sort of thing, thanks

ANd I'm trying to prepare for a gig

Home contents won't cover it generally...If shit happens and they ask why and where, they will decide it was being used as a source of income therefor it needs to be some sort of business equipment insurance. have a look into OAMPS they might be able to help. if they are ruined and you have good contents insurance it would be convenient for them to get stolen i guess....

ive always hired my decks if ive played out. just charge the hire cost and then however you usually charge after. also helps to know people you hire from. build relationships etc... thats just another way you could look at things if you're worried about your gear

Not sure how you went with finding your equipment insurance, but as paid performers we should all look at public liability and accident cover insurance.

If you are getting bookings for private functions, some venues demand that you prove you have PL cover before they let you in the door

Two policies to check out are:

Never had that happen before with any venue i've ever played at our run an event at. Been running events for over 2 years now. Im in Melbourne tho, so it might be different in other states?

I tried to get my equipment insured through my house and contents and couldn't get around it. It's covered when in the home, but once you take it out, things get complicated - as already explained.

My advice is to hire your own gear. Your only talking about $100ish for a proper setup - which isn't that much to pay in the long run. Not worth risking your own equipment imo.

Not saying every venue will ask, but some may. I've been asked a few times over the last few years.

Plus it's piece of mind given someone could trip over one of your leads or knock a speaker on a stand which then falls on them. You need to be covered for public liability or else they could sue you personally and I'm rather attached to my house and other belongings.

Should cost less that $200 for 12 months cover, so it's not too much of a strain on the pocket.

As for hiring your own gear. That may be OK if you do the odd gig every now and then. But if you're working most weekends during the party season, it can get expensive and chew into your profits.

It's more for mobile gigs then club gigs as each time you are more then likely to be playing at a different venue each week. But if you're running it as a business, you should have all your licences and insurances covered.
