CBG Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hey guys, I've seen it here before but I don't really have the time to look. Can someone tell me or direct me to a good insurance joint for insuring my decks.Situation: I bring my decks to a club/party and someone spills a drink on my CD player. That sort of thing, thanks Quote
Cupe Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 pretty sure most contents insurance has a 'away from home shit getting broken' thing Quote
eggssell Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 just check the clause though on home insurance plans as it probably excludes using for commercial purposes Quote
CBG Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 I will rep someone if they can find that posts that states a recommended insurer Quote
Cupe Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 googleddidn't find much that wasn't painfully stretched.there must be an insurance comparison site? Quote
CBG Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Yeah, I'll have a good look now. My internet is cutting out cus of my fuckin phone line, so it's hard. ANd I'm trying to prepare for a gig Quote
CBG Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 will probably be buying the 2xCDJ900 + DJM700's Quote
troyboy Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Home contents won't cover it generally...If shit happens and they ask why and where, they will decide it was being used as a source of income therefor it needs to be some sort of business equipment insurance. have a look into OAMPS they might be able to help. if they are ruined and you have good contents insurance it would be convenient for them to get stolen i guess.... djarmed Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Should check with the club, they would have some form of insurance and it prob covers gear people bring with them. Quote
LabRat Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 ive always hired my decks if ive played out. just charge the hire cost and then however you usually charge after. also helps to know people you hire from. build relationships etc... thats just another way you could look at things if you're worried about your gear Quote
Funky_Steve Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Not sure how you went with finding your equipment insurance, but as paid performers we should all look at public liability and accident cover insurance. If you are getting bookings for private functions, some venues demand that you prove you have PL cover before they let you in the doorTwo policies to check out are:http://www.aon.com.au/australia/enterta ... urance.jsphttp://www.duckforcover.com.au/minigen/ ... ontentID=1 Quote
J0rdz Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 If you are getting bookings for private functions, some venues demand that you prove you have PL cover before they let you in the doorNever had that happen before with any venue i've ever played at our run an event at. Been running events for over 2 years now. Im in Melbourne tho, so it might be different in other states?I tried to get my equipment insured through my house and contents and couldn't get around it. It's covered when in the home, but once you take it out, things get complicated - as already explained. My advice is to hire your own gear. Your only talking about $100ish for a proper setup - which isn't that much to pay in the long run. Not worth risking your own equipment imo. Quote
Funky_Steve Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Not saying every venue will ask, but some may. I've been asked a few times over the last few years. Plus it's piece of mind given someone could trip over one of your leads or knock a speaker on a stand which then falls on them. You need to be covered for public liability or else they could sue you personally and I'm rather attached to my house and other belongings.Should cost less that $200 for 12 months cover, so it's not too much of a strain on the pocket. As for hiring your own gear. That may be OK if you do the odd gig every now and then. But if you're working most weekends during the party season, it can get expensive and chew into your profits. Quote
Jaz Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 yeh ive got $4000 worth of coverage for 12 months for $130 threw RACQ Quote
Funky_Steve Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Was that equipment cover of public liability? If PI, it shgould be $10 or 20 mill cover. Quote
FabDJ Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I will get PI cover for personal injury or property damage My equipment is basic hobby grade so will take my chances. Quote
CBG Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 If a venue told me i couldnt come in to play, i would laugh in their face and walk off Quote
Funky_Steve Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 It's more for mobile gigs then club gigs as each time you are more then likely to be playing at a different venue each week. But if you're running it as a business, you should have all your licences and insurances covered. Quote
CBG Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Well yeah of course. I just work the clubs, I'm not paying all those bullshit fees. Quote
crundyy Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 just take ya own shit and get a few roidrages to hand round near ya and take care of whales that mess with ya gear Quote
rhetski Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 So, can anyone tell me if they have insurance and who with? I'm struggling to find a company who will do it Quote
