You don't need to do that unless you want many layers to sound like just one sound, which you dont really want to do that. I want to be able to appreciate the other sounds too, separate. I want to taste the lettuce, the tomato, the onion, all separate, not just one flavour. For that salad a glue compressor would just not work. It means that depending on the sounds you picked, the glue compressor will work or not. Focus on gain staging, that's more important.
