CBG
thats great for djing, not really for production.you need a midi keyboard, like the m-audio axiom or something. i honestly dont even use my keyboard much either, mainly just the mouse
djarmed
wonder if i could set it up to just do what the mouse would do. cause i dunno if i'd use a keyboard much either.
ChevChelios
If your not gonna use it dont bother buying it. I couldn't live without my keyboard, but thats me.
Buck_Choi
i always wanted some kind of midi pad something small that i could use for cue's loops, select tracks, load them.. all that stuff.. , any one know of something inexpensive, a
CBG
Dude trust me, a launchpad is useless for production. It's use to launch loops in session view. You need a keyboard to create melodies, it allows you to be more creative. Clicking on the piano roll is torture
djarmed
so im going to need to learn how to play a piano?? im fucked then hahahaRecommendations for piano to start?Could you effectively use it for remixes?
JonnyB
dude you dont need to learn shit.of course if you plan on using a midi it will help.but you dont need a midi, its all up to personal prefferance, e.g CBG hates the piano roll, there for uses the midi, im fine using the piano and have no need for a midi, so im fine. ive been making music for over 2 years and the only things iver ever needed was my computer, mouse and headphones, and the software on the computer of course.Dont go spending all this money if you dont need it, just start out with the basic shit, if it looks like production is up your alley, then start investing into it. other wise its money wasted on something you never needed when you could of used that money to put int something you do need. CBG
oh yeah, I should have mentioned that you dont Need a midi keyboard to produce, like Jonny said. But most producers do use them, in other words, its one of the first peices of equipment you would buy.But yeah, you can produce fully from within your pc
Tomy
i own the launch pad and i would say its pretty pointless for production. i bought it for use with live set, launching clips live etc.not really the best way to start. i would advise getting a copy of fruity loops and using you mouse & qwerty keyboard for a bit until you start to get the hang of things then you'll know what you want / need. CBG
and in terms of learning piano, just basic knowledge is enough i.e major minor, intervals etc
DavePulse
Hey man.As stated, just get a midi keyboard. the M-audio Axioms are pretty good and cheap. It might be worth investing in some of the 3grooves video tutorials on Ableton Live as they are REALLY good and extremely helpful.
