News
Legendary funk musician Edwin Birdsong has passed away at the age of 77. If you think you’re unaware of his work, there’s a good chance you’re wrong… Birdsong is known in the dance community for being famously sampled in Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” off their album Discovery. The original song “Cola Bottle Baby” was also reused on Kanye West‘s “Stronger,” which predominantly features Daft Punk’s production. His influence on other genres doesn’t stop there. Another one of his original tracks, “Rapper Dapper Snapper” was also sampled for De La Soul’s “Me Myself and I” and Gang Starr’s “Skills.” Birdsong is remembered for his keyboard skills and all-around artistry. He put out five albums throughout his career, up until the ’80s. He went on to produce for other big name talents including Stevie Wonder and Roy Ayers. RIP.
